I have also found that when I am generally depressed listening to depressing music can somehow help me get past it faster.  The Doors "LA Woman" album has been used for this purpose a couple of times.  Actual breakups are a bit different though and I've found the guideline someone else posted - half the length of the relationship - has been right for me a couple of times.

There have been some really good suggestions here and quite a few I will have to track down and explore sometime (when I'm depressed, I suppose).  Some of the ones I really agree with or can understand:

Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor
I Will Survive - the Cake version is really good for this occasion
I Don't Care Anymore------Phil Collins
Creep---------------------- Radiohead
Love Song - The Cure
It Must Have Been Love - Roxette
You Oughtta Know - Alanis Morrissette
You're Breaking My Heart - Nilsson - has a bite and it's funny

A couple have also confused me (anything by AC/DC and Kansas' "Carry On My Wayward Son"?) and suspect that they are tied to the specific relationship involved.

Then there are a couple that would get me out of the depressed mood faster, if only to get away from those particular songs as quickly as possible.  For me those songs are:

November Rain - G 'n R - (like other stuff by the group, just not that song)
Angel - Aerosmith (ditto)
All Out of Love - Air Supply (aaaaaaaggh!)

but then we all have our tastes.  Another couple of other good possibilities that came to mind for me as I read this thread:

Anything, Anything (I'll Give You) - Dramarama - ** one of the all time best bad relationship/breakup songs
Question - Dramarama
For No One - The Beatles - I was feeling his side of this one during the final part of my marriage, and it sucks
No Better Place - Fountains of Wayne - not sure if they broke up or she just wandered off, lost, but it's still a great song
She's Gone - Hall and Oates
I've Got Everything I Need (Almost) - Blues Bros and someone before that, don't know the original artist
Runaway Train - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Love is a Long Road - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Breakdown - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, again
Blue Morning, Blue Day - Foreigner
The Damage Is Done - Foreigner - they've got a few other good bad relationship/breakup songs as well
Can't Stand Losing You - the Police

And in the "He Doth Protest Too Much Category":

I'm Not in Love - 10CC
Missing You - John Waite
