I have often thought i should have named him Shadow....lol.

The responses on this thread about dominant cats were really funny.  my brother pointed this out to me.  He said i was a slave to the cats because every time they need something, i have to stop what i am doing, and move.  True enough...lol.

The yellow one (who makes no noise)....just comes by me and stares at me.  i say 'What do you want now?'....and she will sit there until i stand up.  There are only 3 things she wants....food, to go outside, or go down in the basement (it's used for storage and she must have a blast down there).  The male cat won't go down there at all.

i think he is bored though because he does like it outside but it is just too cold now and way too much snow.  i open the door, he looks out, then turns away....then he starts crying.

i bought one of those cat scratchers on a base.....they never use it.  Yeh, maybe it's time to try something else.  i saw some ferals outside scratching on a telephone pole.  Maybe i do need something sturdier.

Oh i meant to mention....one day my son (he's 18) came out and told me he thought the cat pissed on his leg while he was on the computer.  Come to find out, the cat sprayed him....hahaha.  Some things are just priceless

Oh yeah, canine and felines, usually the males but sometimes
the females, will piss on their humans or their human's stuff
to mark territory.  This can be awfully embarrassing to explain
in front of company, or just plain irritating if they do it to your
new clothes or shoes!

Cats can be quite funny.  My cat is very similar to yours.  When I work on my car he sits on the fender to watch me.  When i take the dog for a walk out in the back 40 he tags along.  If I am in the garage doing something on the workbench he sits up there.  Most of the time I can work around him, but every once in a while while I am doing something he lightly bites my hand.  He wants me to pet him and is letting me know by his little "love" bites.

now you gotta ask...who owns who....

the one thing that I found that keeps my cats from digging up my furniture are these catnip loaded cardboard scratchers.....they are corrogated cardboard inside a cardboard box.....they LOVE them!  You can get them at wal-mart or any pet store, but wally world has them the cheapest.  They'll dig on them for hours, and they are so-o-o-o-o funny when they are stoned!  They also have a turbo scratcher that has a ball in it with a cardboard center.

As for the spraying, get him neutered QUICK!  The smell is almost impossible to get rid of, and if he starts marking territory, and your second cat moves into it, he may get aggressive.   I have 3, two are garage sale kitties, and one is a barn cat.  The oldest, Kittybrat, is a hoot!  He is the owner of the entire household!   There isn't a cabinet made that he can't open, and he can climb like a mountain goat!  Unfortunately, he taught some of his evil habits to his little brothers.

The fish tank idea is a great one......I inherited one from a boss of mine, and the two younger ones will sit for hours and watch them......as far as KB is concerned, he's rather play in the water without those funny little things in the water.

As far as the kitty box problem, what kind of litter are you using?  I switched to the clumping, sandy kind, and found my cats like that better, with the cheaper stuff, they would use it, but not cover up.

His attention problem may be temporary......but the squirt bottle is the best teaching tool.  I have one, and all i need to do is pick it up, and they run in the other direction.  Just try not to hit them in the ears or eyes with the stream, you can injure both of those areas.

Otherwise, just learn to enjoy being the "beck and call" girl for him.  Everytime mine meet me at the door when I get home, my problems of the day just leave me.  They all purr and talk to me...at least til their tummies are full!
