As for the Adult chatroom thing, while in way I feel sorry for him, I have alittle trouble in believing that such a addiction exists.  I suspect that alot of people may be using it as an excuse.  Of course I could be wrong

When did the "pulling your hand from the hot stove" reflex die?

If it's hot, don't drink it.  If you don't get that, stay home with pillows strapped on.

If you want, take some coffee at home, and bring it to a temp of 140 (60 C) then let it sit for a minute while you get 2 cream and 2 sugar.  Add that, stir, and drink.

Not quite the desired effect, eh?

Statistically, if something can happen, it will.  If McD's sells a million coffees per year, chances are that someone, somewhere, will burn themselves.  Someone, somewhere, will also drive off the road because they can't see through the cup.

I'm gonna sue for a billion because their cups are unnecessarily opaque!

Yours,

benji

"Man sues IBM over adult chat room firing"
By JIM FITZGERALD, Associated Press Writer Sun Feb 18, 7:06 AM ET

"WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A man who was fired by IBM for visiting an adult chat room at work is suing the company for $5 million, claiming he is an Internet addict who deserves treatment and sympathy rather than dismissal."

*Packs bags* Well off to another intervention.

Guy surfs porn at work?  If the company has a policy against it, he deserves to be fired.  If he had been warned, he deserves to be fired.  End of story.

I tend to agree. If he had received a warning, that would have been the time to tell his employer "I have a problem, please help", if that's truly what it was. I'm sure that a large company like IBM has an Employee Assistance Program. I will concede that it is difficult to ask for help, but on the other hand, there has to be some personal responsibility in all of this. After all, which would be more difficult to live with - quietly asking for help from your employer's EAP, or having your predilections broadcast worldwide because you're taking your former employer to court.

I also agree with Trampler's comment about believing such an addiction exists. It all sounds a little bit too trite, but then again, I don't know all the facts.

Gee, my Mom says this to me all the time, but it just feels too awkward to do it any other way!   So far I still have all my fingers! *L*

As A hot beverage burn vitum myself, I assure you a beverage does NOT have to be stored at a temperature that can cause 3rd degree burns to taste right.  I did not put a hot cup between my legs but was pouring hot watter to prepare a cup of tea out of a dispenser the cup sliped and the steaming hot watter soaked into my tight uniform shirt sleave cuff and burned all the way around my wrist and hand.  It is extreamly painful, and I have every sympathy for the woman in the McD's lawsuit.  I mean come on people were not talking about a light scald we are talking about Scaring in a womans most sensitive area's  The coffee wasnt safe, wasnt even drinkable.  And neither was the Watter that burned me, served in a caffeteria setting.  yes some lawsuits are frivolous but often thats how improvements in safty are made.
