*wink* i like to keep things simple....so i just use my own name....i don't judge people on what they have chosen... but i am quick to make up my mind about them once i have spoken with them

hisannabelle -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 1:20:44 PM)

i think it's kind of silly when people have master/mistress/sir/etc. or any reference to sex (like 69, ass, etc.) in their names. i mean, god, think of something distinctive already. i prefer it when people have their real names or at least something that makes sense in conversation to refer to them as...for example, annabelle isn't my real name but it's one of His nicknames for me, so i chose it. i'd much rather see an actual name or at least a distinctive phrase that means something to the poster than something like "masterforhotyoungslave" or "hissub259" or something like that. my previous screenname on here was full of grace...that's not a name, and it's not even related to my real name, but it meant something to me and it was distinctive. to use examples from the boards, i'd much rather see a name like "luckyalbatross" or "mercandbeth" than "sirdiscipliner69," simply because the former two tell me a little about the person and are at least distinctive, where as the last one (as...interesting...as i sometimes find his posts) is quite generic and boring.

i don't not open email based on names, as luckyalbatross already mentioned, but like i said, i'm partial to distinctive names, so i'm much more likely to be responsive to someone who's name isn't "masterwithawhip." that doesn't exclude people with boring names and awesome personalities from getting a good response, though :P nobody's emailed me in ages, unless it had to do with a board post, though...i think i need to add pics to my profile or something again. it's always fun to see the new email message pop up :P

TrueCalling -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 1:36:22 PM)

When someone with the name 'Master-bator' contacts me, i'll be glad 'he' used his self appointed title in his name...i  suspect it'll be truth in advertising!  Of course a name other than "Master SoandSo' or 'DommeDiva' is more apt to catch my eye...but i am an equal opportunity communicator and if someone has something to say, regardless of their username..Gawd bless em! My email for my high speed is 'iamacunt'.....people email just to see if it's true-the name that is...or is it?<G>

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 1:38:08 PM)

If the name focuses on a fetish or activity, they have to work harder to earn my respect. While I understand in my head that we all come to this for different reasons, there's something about a name like "fuckmeinpantyhose" that's a turnoff for me.

MrRodgers -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 1:47:17 PM)

I don't know what's in a name...but hey, isn't that Hortence over there ? I don't know...but she looks pretty relaxed to me.

Oh no, that's Puntang and she's just real tight.

Missokyst -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 1:47:37 PM)

Growing up in a family of punsters, it was easy for me to feel comfy in my screen name.  When I see other screen names I like to see a bit of fun, thought, and a glimpse into the personality of the wearer.
I tend to dismiss the MrLordSterndiscipline types of names unless I have seen posts which reveal them to be humorous and/or intelligent.  Many cultures encourage people, once they have become adult, to change their name to one which suits.  I like this practice and view choosing a screen name in a similar vein.

cjenny -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 2:00:46 PM)

I was an IRC chatter for about 10 years, my closest 'friends' that I made were from the troll & lizard group. Taught me that just because it is a "laying it all out there crude moronic" nick it doesn't mean the person behind it is. We would talk for hours in private about everything except cybersex [;)] . Uhhuh I said the dreaded cybersex word muah ha ha ha.

CreativeDominant -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 2:29:06 PM)

Names in themselves mean little to me.  When I read a name that I have not seen before, my initial impression can run the gamut from "How clever" to "How predictable" to "Hmmm...wonder what that means to them" and everything in-between.

Then I think about how many deliberately choose their name to evoke some sort of response in the individual reading it...and may do so deliberately just to tweak some people.  I also think about how many times my initial thought about someone was later proved to be wrong by their postings and by getting to know them.  This is why names mean little to me other than the initial response.

Master-bater?  LAMistress?  toservez?  World of Silence?  SirDiscipliner69? CrappyDom?  CreativeDominant?
SusanofO?  sambamanslilgirl?  benji?  ~shrugs~  They are, in the long run, just names and may or may not reveal the real person behind the name.  I may be creative as all hell...or I may be a fumble-fingered clod.  CrappyDom may really be a crappy dom...or he may be just SimplyMichael.  World of Silence could be deaf or the name could be a reference to a world in which she imagines that no one hears her.  Master-bater may be the hands-down (and up) champ...or he may love to bait people with his posts.

Skarredwolfpuppy -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 2:34:14 PM)

woof! my name says a lot about me! just break it down....Skarred-mental and physically, Wolf (i love wolves!) puppy...i'm a puppy!!! yay! that's how i got my name![:)]

Squeakers -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 2:45:18 PM)

My chat name does in no way reflect me.   As, I've mentioned before my nickname is actually what I call one of my felines, because she squeaks when I pick her up.    Because I wish to remain private, I chose not to use my given name and I was too lazy to think up some name that reflected my personality.   Also since I am forever changing what may describe me today might not tomorrow or next week.
With that said, I really dislike the what I consider the 'nasty' nicks; 'Hard4U', "13inchesaround" and although I am more tolerant to the Master names; like  "MasterDick".    I sort of dislike them as well simply because there are so many who could be a "MasterDick" and I only call one person Master so I wonder how to address them because I am uncomfortable calling anyone Master but my own.
Because I very seldom response to any email except for a response saying I am attached, it doesn't bother me too much.
What I do wonder is why some submissives seem to have such negative names, I really am not trying to point anyone out but often I see names that are so sad.   Adjectives such as crying, weeping, tears, lost---now of course sometimes, tears are a good thing but when I click the profile, the negative emotions are almost always present in the profiles as well.   I tend to be a happy, positive submissive, and I just wonder why, sometimes there is such a sadness associated within the lifestyle.

ravenairsprite -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 2:54:23 PM)

Yeah I get impressions at least a little bit about people by their nicks anywhere involving chat. But only if I truly pay attention to them. Most times I just react like ok so somebody contacted me or responded to me. Cool what do they have to say? If I'm looking for someone to talk to....yet again....I don't really care about the name I care about the words. If I cared about the name I wouldn't have some of the friends I do.

ScreamerGirl -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 5:15:39 PM)

My nick came from my very first "serious" dominant 14 years ago and it stuck.  People who have known me online (AOL wheee) since that time only know that my nicks always contain "Screamer" and thus I'm pretty easy to find around the net.  In recent times, I have used another nick, just as a separation from "who I have been" but I always come back to this one.

If people react badly to it, I guess that's on them.  I've become so identified with this name that it's just who I am.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 5:24:58 PM)

Names that are obviously trying TOO hard I find difficult to take seriously.  Proclaiming your position as Master, Mistress or sub or slave just means you liked the name.  Making a name out of a fetish is also, well, cute somtimes.  But very involved names that sound like they are trying to corner themselves into an interest bug me.  Or, those that find it necessary to use profanity.
My name comes from being a predominantly daytime person, and having a tendacy to bite. Its also more interesting than most others Ive used and I assumed more people would remember that one.

softcoresicko -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 5:48:55 PM)

Yay, a fun and interesting topic!  The genesis of my nickname is pretty boring: I'm into softcore play, and I like the alliteration with sicko.  I wrote it all in lowercase letters, as I didn't know anything about the 'rules' regarding capitalization for Doms and lowercase for subs, and I just don't like to hit the Shift button.  Of course, had I realized how many people would shorten my nick to 'soft', I might have tried to come up with something a bit more clever...

As for whether a person's nickname would lead me to not write/repond to her: it hasn't affected my decisions yet, though I have no idea if the reverse is true.  I usually read through a woman's profile before I write, so I have something more to go on than just a name.

GeekyGirl -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 6:11:57 PM)

I probably let it affect me more than I should.

One  immediate turn off for me is overly sexual names (random made up examples "clitpunisher" "lovestofukk" "makeyoucum" etc) because it implies to me that person's focus is more on sex than on relationships)

I also hate names using "net speak" ie U for you and R for are and 2 for two.(loves2cume, wantstofukkU, dom4U2nite)  It just prates on my nerves for some reason. There's something about it that seems...I dunno...almost unintelligent (and intelligence is a trait I look for in a man.)

I will read the emails from people with names I dislike but have often written back and flat out told the person that their name disturbs me for one reason for another.

ETA I chose my name because, well, it's me :) I'm geeky and proud of it!

domiguy -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 6:20:48 PM)

Mine is but a simple tale one that I'm sure has been told out here a number of times throughout this thread. It begins back in the old country where a young lad asked his girl,Dommenique, to marry him...She was of course a virgin, and on their honeymoon night whilst he pounded her anally...some of his sperm oozed down into her gash and a new life was created....Upon learning of the blessed news my father, Dom Corlione, told his wife that their future, as well as my own, was across the ocean so they packed up their belongings and moved to Wisconsin.

As a Dombryo I have vivid recollections of staring through the haze of the embryonic fluid and sac and realizing that my  "purpose" was special and unique.  Well the months rolled by and 9 months later a Domiboy was the gift the Gods bestowed upon my folks.  My childhood was nothing out of the ordinary...I learned to apply nipple clamps to our dog by the age of 4...I was fisting a Wonder Woman doll at the age of 6.  And I became tutored in the knowledge of dispencing electric shock treatments throught the ages of 8-10 (Jokingly referred to as the peta years ,in Domiboys household, due to my pets remarkably short lifespan during that era) Upon turning eighteen my father sat a Domiboy down said, "Son I've taught you all that I know." Tears welled up in his eyes as he tousled his son's hair for the last time and whispered..."You are now a guy."

So it's Domiguy...Pretty straight forward nothing odd here.

Well, I guess your stint with moderation is over.  Welcome back.

sillygirl09 -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 6:29:08 PM)

I don't let the name affect me at all.  I've met people from online with "master" in their names and without, I decided to talk with them and then meet them based on what I could gather of their personality not their name.

Quivver -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/22/2007 6:48:08 PM)

I make a first judgement call from a name.  And at times depending on the name it can effect my response.
Dom/Master/Sir evoke a question mark for me, not negitive per say, finaly judgement lies in the text.
But the others that are simply sexual get the iggy button, it's not what I'm here for.
