Hello All,

I am epileptic since i'm 8 years old.
After many years under medications nothing happened to me again.
2 years ago with the permission of my doctor I quit taking meds because i wanted to get pregnant and , medications were not counceled.

Last week end i did a new epilepsy Attack, nothing too serious but interpealing enough to make me wonder:

Must I continue in this lifestyle with my health concern?

Did anyone of you having the same problems then me? What do you think?

even tho i do not have the same problem, my brother is epileptic. they have wanted to take him off meds for a while, but every time they go to, he has an episode. i think you should try and talk to you doctor about what you could do about different meds that wont effect the pregnancy, if they want you to continue meds. i know it totally sucks that you have to rely on meds the rest of your life, that i completely understand, but if you want a family, you should talk to you doctor-if they are good enough, they should be able to help you. hope this helps!

I believe you can continue in the ls,just stay on top of the situation and make sure anyone you play with knows of you condition and what to do if you have an attact while in play...WE have played with several with this condition.so with care a good health bdsm life is possible...BH

It isn't really something anyone else can answer for you I'm afraid. I ask myself the same question frequently, while I don't have epilepsy I have other medical problems.
If it interferes with you on a serious and daily level then it will make things harder yes, but if it is controlled then it is really up to you. I would  make sure that I wore a medalert tag, and let anyone I played/scened with know ahead of time.

I had a so called "friend" here on collarme recently tell me he could never be with me because of my mental problems which ..my submission is not something is he worthy of owning. Continue in the lifestyle sis but make sure they know about your condition. I won't pretend to understand what you are going through with your health but know that I will put you in my prayers...I could never give up the lifestyle, it is part of who I am...I am now chatting with someone who knows all about my past, my medical problems and he's fine with it all so-- there is someone for everyone..God bless

Chloe,
If in doubt wait it out.

Do what you feel comfortable with. The lifestyle is in your heart and not your play. If you are choosing to take a hiatus to have a family, do so. The lifestyle will still be here.

Chloe I feel that people should not be defined by their disability/illness.
Yes, you have health issues that impact your life, but it's not the only thing you are.
Perhaps you can find ways to work around it and make adjustments.  Anyone who is worthy of a relationship with you will understand and accept this.  If they don't, you have to ask yourself if they are the type of person you want to be with.

You don't have to do anything.  Why can't you go back on the meds?

As long as what you do do in play is not a trigger, and as long as there is at least one other that is about that you have confided in, and knows what to do if you have a seizure I cannot see why you would need to stop.  Educate a few people that you hang out with as to what to do, and what not to do if you have a seizure.  In a way there is little to do more than one would do with aftercare for a person who has been in subspace.

I must go back on meds, I just have to wait until friday. Apparently the meds can be dangerous for the foetus but i can not explain why.

That's understandable.  But since you said it was two years ago I figured at this point it would be prudent to just go back to them.  Good luck.

Medical issues can and should limit or alter activity in the lifestyle but not totaly eleminate it.

Im a type 2 diabetic and test My blood sugar before a scene. When restraining My partner I make sure she has a way to undo the restraints in case something happens.

Sharing medical history and a common sense approach to your activities should be all that is needed.

Simple answer.  NO.  Nobody is making you stay in the lifestyle if you don't want to be here.
However, if you do want to be here...health problems can be dealt with.  You just have to scrutinize those you meet a bit more than the rest of us would.
Make sure they know your health issues and make sure they care enough to care for you if you need it.
Many people have health issues and they merely work around them.

I can say that a reasonably well known educator in BDSM is epileptic, and continues to play. He wears a MedicAlert bracelet, lets those he is staying and/or at least one person at parties know how to deal with a seizure, and takes reasonable care with medications and health. He does not play if he is experiencing any kind of onset symptoms of a seizure, which he knows how to identify.

You can certainly continue to play. I hope you were able to have a child in the past two years?
