LARGO, Florida (AP) --

"The City Commission voted to begin the process of firing a top official less than a week after he announced plans to pursue a sex-change operation.

The 5-to-2 vote Tuesday started a three-step process to remove City Manager Steve Stanton from the job he's held for 14 years.

Stanton, 48, confirmed last week that he is a transsexual. With a solid reputation as a forceful and energetic leader, he had hoped to keep his $140,000-a-year job as he underwent the gender reassignment process."

I don't understand how a sex change affects whether or not this person can do their job.

Oh, he'll have plenty of lawyers waiting in the wings to help him out with his cause.  This dude will get 10X his yearly salary when he is done with them.  Working for dumb, small-minded people nowadays is a great way to make millions it seems.

I actually live very near here. He says he's not going to press charges, but he is getting a year's worth of pay.

I brought this up on my regular blog. Again, it's hard to imagine how people can really go out of their way to ruin someone's career because of their own morality constraints.
