One must be aware of what is involved not just physically but mentally as well.

Previous real time experiences such as abuse or rape may have a tramatic effect when attempting to conduct a session with her consent.

and this is a big part of the problem. I've met few (none) who are both willing and able to properly deal with a hysterical sobbing mess. Most people seem extremely uncomfortable with that kind of intense emotional display and avoid it like the plague. Some seem to enjoy the sense of power and satisfaction they get from producing the reaction, but aren't really interested in cleaning up the mess afterward. Others are too timid to even go near such buttons in the first place. Developing a relationship in which there is enough complete understanding and trust to enter sensitive areas that might produce an intense emotional reaction takes time, and so many people are impatient.

One must not only be aware but willing to deal with the aftercare.

If anything is worth doing it is worth investing the time and energy in doing so.

I was uncomfortable years ago but slowly through exposure and experience I found what a mental realm it was and why it was delicious.

It is being responsible to know how an activity may affect those involved in a session as the submissive's risk to health and the dom's responsibility for the outcome....this not only entails the obvious physical but also the emotional and mindset before, during and afterwards which long exceeds the actual session.

This is something that needs to be aware of regarding both parties of a session.

The human mind may retain things, events and situations that we are not ae\ware of or have repressed.

Engaging in seemingly "fun" taboos may be a catalyst for something we did not bargin for....opening of the pandora's box...

Paranoia is total awareness.

If your ears actually ring i believe it means he is inuring a nerve. i would be careful with extreme face slapping.  A dom i had been with enjoyed it so we decided to try it.  He slapped me very  hard and my ears rang and a portion of my lip was numb and had a weird sensation for over two weeks later.  i would be very hesitant to try it again unless it was a very light slap. i wasn't new to face slapping either. My ex dom i had been with 5 years enjoyed it very much. He wanted me to be able to not flinch at all when he slapped me, which i was able to do after a time, this made him very happy with me   i thought he slapped pretty hard, so i was not prepared to have my head nearly ripped off by the subsequent dom - so be prepared for hard being a very subjective term.
