Laura -> RE: A SWITCH defined in one sentence? (4/4/2005 10:25:05 PM)

I don't think it can be done in one sentence. Each could say for their own selves but since there is a lot of grey about switching I don't think one sentence will cut it or be very clear.

Myself, I would say a Switch is someone who does it my way, my mood of the moment and my desire/ passion as I am with another.

Hi I'm looking for someone who can come up with a really good one sentence positive definition of what a switch is, that could be posted on our profiles, that everyone could understand.

How about:

"Enjoys either side of the flogger, depending on mood or situation"

A switch defined in one sentence: I will be in control, i will be controlled, and do both with confidence in my desire to be true to myself.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: A SWITCH defined in one sentence? (4/9/2005 4:29:41 PM)

To steal what perverse said how about

I happen to be one of those people who enjoy both, so I DO both.

A S/switch expresses either Domination/Topping or submitting/bottoming depending on cirsumstances, mood, or P/partners, and may suffer misunderstanding like a bisexual in a world that prefers either/or.

Exercise one: Define a Switch in a single sentence, in relationship to a BSDM environment.

Switch (=) is defined as someone who understands that a coin has two sides and appreciates the “Value” is the same of both.

DOM (>) is the Ying of the Yang, Alpha, and Person in control, without a Sub or a Yang in the “Vanilla world” is just defined as an Asshole or a Bitch.

Sub (<) is the Yang of the Ying, Omega, the person who “Gives up” control, and in the “Vanilla World” is just defined as a Wimp or a Doormat.

In my “True Switch Nature” I am both offended and amused by my last two definitions, but because of my obsessive overwhelming need to over achieve, please, and control the situation, I just could not define or choose “just one”.

Note: Each definition is a single sentence.

I hope this adds insight to the mind of a “True switch”.

Merc, you subjected this board to an entire page of puns recently. (The Gandhi one has been tormenting me ever since.) Since a Switch should be able to administer punishment as well as take it, this one’s for you.

I agree with Laura, which is why I didn't join the conversation earlier.
Several points though. Switch means different things to different people, so even a multisentence definition is going to be difficult.

In my case, it even meant different things over time. I had some trouble defining my orientation. I started out thinking of myself as submissive. But I like giving oral service, so I "switched" to "Service Oriented." Then I started attending Munches, and meeting nice fem-subs, and gradually the Dom side started creeping out. It took some time to convince myself that I didn't have to be an asshole to be a Dom, so now the Dom side is just a Dom with zero experience. But everyone starts there.

So now, when I say I'm a Switch, I mean I'm willing to be a sub or a Dom or give oral service, or for that matter be a darn good Vanilla lover! [sm=lol.gif]

Sorry for the long story. Evolution takes time.

Being a switch for me means that ....."I embrace all the qualites of my innerself and accept them as a beautiful and natural way of living life to it's fullest."

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this thread/question....this is only my opinion...I do accept that everyone has their own definition of what makes a "word" have the power to start and end wars in this world. I would also like to add that as a 'switch'...I was not offended by any of the other post to this thread...

Best wishes for a happy and healthy resolve.

Ok, how about a more nerdy definition?

A switch: a 5 on a dichotomy scale of 1 to 10, 1 being Master, 10 being slave.

Of course, you then decide where you are on the scale...it may not be a 5.

Good afternoon, Ma'am.

If i understand You correctly, i think i would differ on this. It seems to imply that a switch is necessarily less of a master or slave than one who is not a switch. i can think of examples that go against that.

MistressFire70 -> RE: A SWITCH defined in one sentence? (4/26/2005 4:03:18 PM)

Now, hon...you know that's not what I meant, because you know ME. If a rainbow is a dichotomy of color stretching from red to violet, is orange less or more a color than red or blue? No, it just falls in the middle of the frequency range.

Another example: being bisexual. I see sexuality on a dichotomy scale where one end is Het and the other Gay/Lesbain. Us bi people fall in the middle. We're not less gay or more het than the others.

Don't get you're switch feathers ruffled!

THAT EASY I CAN EASILY DEFINE SWITCH IN ON SENTENCE. A SWITCH IS A THING YOU USE TO TURN STUFF ON AN DOFF LIKE I FLIPPED ON THE SWITCH AND THE LIGHT WENT ON.

brniidldy -> RE: A SWITCH defined in one sentence? (4/27/2005 3:51:54 PM)

I'm a bikinky switch. Which means I'll play with girls or boys but I'm not interested in being sexual with girls. My description I use often. Is as follows "Is it better to give or receive? The right answer is I don't have to decide." I have also used "I can give as good as I can take" The most wonderful thing about this lifestyle is there is room for all no matter what the definition is that you use.

Good morning, Ma'am.

Further geeky switch thoughts, that i think apply to the het/gay dimension as well.

i think we really need two dimensions. A 5 on the single 1-to-10 could just as easily reflect vanilla as full-bore switch, or a Kinsey 3 could be asexual or bisexual.

my modest proposal? A coordinate system! So a (1,1) is vanilla, and a (10,10) is someone who takes on master roles to some and slave roles to some. Anyone who is in the range of around (3,3) to (8,8) is a switch, and whichever number is higher (let's put domination first, to keep from ruffling more feathers) represents a stronger tendency. So You're a (10,1), and i'm around a (3,7) or so.

Embrace the nerdom!

pat {Fire}

I enjoyed Peppermint379's definition: "A switch is one who enjoys and can play on both sides of the D/s slash."
Also,"Enjoys either side of the flogger, depending on mood or situation" by Mercnbeth.

Hi there, I'm very new to the site. I'm also very new to all this, I'm seeking some advise and direction, If your not the person that could help me find what this all about, or don't have the time, could u reply with who I could chat with and learn more. Just a quick overview, I'm 52 yr old male, straight, eager to explore this lifestyle. Not sure what I am. I put switch since I think I could go either way. I'm not always one that would be a DOM and I'm not one to be always SUB. I could enjoy either with the right setting and person. I'm married, but have an open relationship. partner not interested. I live in North Carolina and Florida. I have a interest in some Kink and willing to explore all areas. If u would be kind enough to reply if u so choose, direct me in a direction that might help me. Anything u can would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this and any input would be appreciated. Thank you
