Okay, Im speaking from the spot of someone who has suffered serious dehydration, I was told not to drink any water dor 3 days that everything needed to be Gatorade or have some type of sugar or salt in. Gatorade isnt that bad for you, it has what you need to replace but most people dont need it unless they are being active for 6-8 hours or it is very warm where they are. I know that there are times that the mere taste of water has turned my stomach and I have to have the Gatorade. I dont know what it is but Gatorade can be a life saver. A few months ago, a radio station did some stunt where contants had to drink a gallon of water in like 15 mintues and a lady drank like 2 gallons and died a few hours later. She died from water intoxication. So really to much of anything can be bad for you. So I think I will stick with my Gatorade.

Drink what you like and perhaps extra during heavy exertion since the body's sense of thirst can be a bit delayed.  Still if one drinks too much sugar/glucose/fructose the body will convert it to fat.  If the body gets too little sugar (which is unlikley unless one is in such an exertion as a marathon) the body will switch to benign dietary ketosis and convert fat to sugar.  If the body gets too much potassium/sodium etc. the kidneys will excrete it rapidly in the presence of adequate water.  I have never heard of anyone running into cardiac problems (electrolyte problems) by drinking too much Gatorade. Too little electrolytes though can lead to cramping,  heat exhaustion or even heatstroke so drink a mix.

The only time I have heard of anyone running into electrolyte problems by drinking too much water is Schizophrenic water intoxication, which is quite extreme.  We are talking gallons....

My preference is for the Glaceau Vitamin Water as well, simply because regular water after a scene (even good bottled water) has a tendancy to make me a bit tummy aware.

Most of the sports drinks have too much sugar and salt replacement isn't that necessary in most cases.

I've found Gookinaid ERG, to be a  far better than gatoraid.  It has the same electrolyte make up and proportions as occur naturally, and is absorbed into the system more rapidly and has fewer sugars.  However I would only recomend ornge, none of the other flavors taste even close to good.
I learned about gookinaid from a wilderness rescure doc, who found it worked better than oral rehydration salts, for oral treatment of dehydration.
