I have recovered from an illness in my life that if I had listened to friends, family, doctors, etc., I would be much further in the hole than I am today.
I wish you all the best, Level, but I want to point out that stubbornness and unwillingness to listen to anybody else's opinion without independant verification from outside sources are wonderful personality attributes in these sorts of situations.
I would suggest you try to keep in mind that what you personally think is far more important than what anybody tells you.
