LadyAngelika -> This song is about you (4/3/2005 1:26:16 PM)

Last night I went out with some girlfriends to an 80's themed night for a little dancing. What fun! I did the whole fishnets, pointy kitty heels and virgin bracelets thing. A blast!

The music just had us all grinning, it was brilliant. Along comes Kim Carnes' Betty Davis Eyes and my friend turns to me and says, "This song reminds me so much of you! It's lke she is singing about you." I found that very interesting.

Has anyone else had such an experience, someone telling them a song felt like it was about them, or even really strongly identifying with a song?

Her hair is Harlowe gold
Her lips sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll turn her music on you
You won't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow
She got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo stand off sighs
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll let you take her home
It whets her appetite
She'll lay you on her throne
She got Bette Davis eyes
She'll take a tumble on you
Roll you like you were dice
Until you come out blue
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll expose you, when she snows you
Off your feet with the crumbs she throws you
She's ferocious and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please ya
She's precocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll tease you
She'll unease you
Just to please ya
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll expose you, when she snows you
She knows ya
She's got Bette Davis eyes

That's nice that your friend can identify you in those lyrics and that you agree. Kinda gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling to read that story.

I can't recall anyone ever saying a song was about me nor can I think of a tune I identify strongly with. However, there are occasions when I think I can express my feelings for someone with the lyrics from "I Don't Care About You" by the punk band Fear; here's a sample of the lyrics:

"I don't care about you!
Oh noooooo!!
I don't care about you!
Fuck you!"

Not exactly warm and fuzzy sentiments, eh? I'm pretty sure that tune was also from the '80s, but it sounds like it wasn't a slam dancing crowd so I guess they didn't play it.

ahhh Lee Ving & Fear... my favorite is "Living In The City" (though it doesn't exactly capture my essence lmao). Nothing like some angst ridden first wave punk rawk...

My house smells just like a zoo
It's chock full of shit and puke
Cockroaches on the walls
Grass growing on my balls
oh well im so clean cut
and I just want to fuck some slut

I love living in the city
I love living in the city

Ive spent my whole life in the city
where junk is king and the air smells shity
people puking everywhere
piles of blood, scabs, and hair
bodies wasted and disease
young people dying on the streets
but the suburban scumbags they dont care
they just get fat and die their hair

I love living in the city
I love living in the city

As far as songs that I identify with, man, too many to list....

This song just reminds me so much of my Master. Not just the lyrics but the way he sings it, the rythm of it...i identify this song with Master.

"A Little Less Conversation"
(elvis presley)

A little less conversation, a little more action please
All this aggravation ain't satisfactioning me
A little more bite and a little less bark
A little less fight and a little more spark
Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me
Satisfy me baby

Baby close your eyes and listen to the music
Drifting through a summer breeze
It's a groovy night and I can show you how to use it
Come along with me and put your mind at ease

A little less conversation, a little more action please
All this aggravation ain't satisfactioning me
A little more bite and a little less bark
A little less fight and a little more spark
Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me
Satisfy me baby

Come on baby I'm tired of talking
Grab your coat and let's start walking
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Don't procrastinate, don't articulate
Girl it's getting late, gettin' upset waitin' around

A little less conversation, a little more action please
All this aggravation ain't satisfactioning me
A little more bite and a little less bark
A little less fight and a little more spark
Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me
Satisfy me baby

heh. Now I wonder if I should be thrilled that someone has now said a song is about me, or maybe I shouldn't considering the song. But coming from you, my dear, I do feel honored to be called a freak.

ruffnecksbabygir -> RE: This song is about you (4/6/2005 7:40:38 AM)

Thank you LA! : )

Here's the one that i identify with (i dedicate this one to Master)

Way Down
(Elvis Presley)

Babe, you're getting closer
The lights are goin' dim
The sound of your breathin'
Has made the mood I'm in
All of my resistance
Is lying on the floor
Taking me to places
I've never been before

Ooh, and I can feel it,
Feel it, feel it, feel it

Way down where the music plays
Way down like a tidal wave
Way down where the fires blaze
Way down, down, way, way on down

Ooh, my head is spinnin'
You got me in your spell,
A hundred magic fingers
On a whirling carousel
The medicine within me
No doctor could prescribe
Your love is doing something
That I just can't describe

Ooh, and I can feel it,
Feel it, feel it, feel it

Way down where the music plays
Way down like a tidal wave
Way down where the fires blaze
Way down, down, way, way on down

Hold me again,
Tight as you can
I need you so,
Baby, let's go

Way down where it feels so good
Way down where I hoped it would
Way down where I never could
Way down, down, way, way on down

One hand loves the other
So much on me

Born stubborn me
Will always be
Before you count
One two three
I will have grown my own private branch
Off this tree

You gardener
You discipliner
Domestically
I can obey all of your rules
And still be, me

I never thought I would compromise
I never thought I would compromise
I never thought I would compromise

Let's unite tonight
We shouldn't fight
Embrace you tight
Let's unite tonight

I thrive best hermit style
With a beard and a pipe
And a parrot on each side
Now I can't do this without you

I never thought I would compromise
I never thought I would compromise
I never thought I would compromise

Let's unite tonight
We shouldn't fight
Embrace you tight
Let's unite tonight

One hand love the other
So much on me

Let's unite tonight
We shouldn't fight
Embrace you tight
Let's unite tonight

Let's unite tonight
We shouldn't fight
Embrace you tight
Let's...

Unison

Cool topic and excellent choices above!

This is one that I have always felt spoke to me:

And I'd give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls

(Of course, there's always Harmony by Elton John, which is where my nic came from, a first love who sang that song to me and used to call me that........oh youth!........smile)

Be well,
harmony

Demon requested I respond to m'Lady A's question with this for Him.

'Lucky Man'
The Verve

Happiness,
More or less
It's just a change in me
Something in my liberty
Oh, my, my
Happiness
Coming and going
I watch you look at me
Watch my fever growing
I know just where I am

But how many corners do I have to turn?
How many times do I have to learn
All the love I have is in my mind?

Well, I'm a lucky man
With fire in my hands

Happiness
Something in my own place
I'm stood here naked
Smiling,
I feel no disgrace
With who I am

Happiness
Coming and going
I watch you look at me
Watch my fever growing
I know just who I am

But how many corners do I have to turn?
How many times do I have to learn
All the love I have is in my mind?

I hope you understand
I hope you understand

I got a love that'll never die

Happiness
More or less
It's just a change in me
Something in my liberty
Happiness
Coming and going
I watch you look at me
Watch my fever growing
I know
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my

I got a love that'll never die
I got a love that'll never die
No, no
I'm a lucky man...

Mouthy -> RE: This song is about you (4/17/2005 10:42:33 PM)

I LOVE this question. I've been listening to this song on the ol' iPod for weeks, without having quite the right time/place to offer it up:

When I was 17 I
dreamed of being king and
having everything I wanted

But that was long ago and
my dreams did not unfold, so
I'm still the king of nothing

When I was 17 I dreamed I gave a ring to
A pretty queen and then I held her
But that was slumber's fault for
I have no love at all and
I'm still the king of nothing

If I could rule I'd dance my cares away
Find romance every day
I wouldn't have to listen to this poor fool say
I'm the king
I'm the king
I'm the king of nothing

--Lyrics and music by James Seals, 1970

Every time I read a blast of petulant whining from a "Master" who was thwarted in an attempt to enforce His Will, it just somehow floats into my head. I LOVE that song.
