Sounds like he got out of hand. Loss of control during BDSM for the erson who is "in control" can be bad.

I wouldn't classify the beating as anything to do with BDSM, nor was it done during a BDSM scene. Apples and oranges.

The only connection to BDSM, that I can see, is the two people involved had previously engaged in role-playing (possibly BDSM) activities.

It was a person losing control because he didn't like hearing the word, "No". Abuse.

Rape is rape regardless if it is consensual or not, and the huge mistake he made was doing this in public.
I think he got off too easy.

He got off way to easy for what he did to this woman. Hopefully while he is in prison someone will show him the same treatment.
