You know, years ago I was on a medically restricted diet which pretty much eliminated all food from my diet (okay, a slight exaggeration) and I lived vicariously through my ex husband. Sometimes just the vision or the scent of something was enough to sate my cravings. So I would always urge him to order dessert and then I'd slide the plate over to me and mmmm inhale its scent. "I just want to smell it" I'd say. LOL it worked!
They've actually done scientific studies that demonstrate that the smell of food can alleviate hunger-chocolate being a big one. Inhaling the smell deeply. When I'm at the movie theatre, when I run out of milk duds, I'll keep the box and smell the inside from time to time if I'm still hungry.
