I recently began discussing this world with a friend who has been involved for years upon years. The group he used to know back in cali were very spiritual people who would do things lie the ball dance or kavadi.....i was wodnering if any of you have experienced these things whether spectating or doing yourself. the ball dance is simple to explain, piercings with monofilament weaved thru attached to balls..you get a few of them on your flesh then dance...the kavadi is like a tall cage in a way, positioned on your shoulders holding man spears in your sides, chest, back....not poking your flesh bu tpierced thru. and you walk around with it, they come from native american/indian descent

I don't know anyone who does it as a practice, but tribal dancing with piercings/threadings/things dangling has occurred at just about every outdoor kinky event I've been to and more than a few non-outdoors ones.

I've done this. We do this at the end of Southwest Leather Conference in a spiritual ceremony called the Dance of Souls. You can do the ball dance or a hook pull. I did a hook pull at the Advanced Butchmanns last year in November and still have the marks (cool!), but I haven't done one at SWLC. I seem to be more drawn to drumming and facilitating for people.

However, I did do a ball dance this year at SWLC. I worked a month on some hand beaded fringe. For the Dance, it was sewn on in places with monofilament. Here's a pic of the fringe. It's not the most flattering picture, but I wasn't there to necessarily look good. (yes, I have the man's approval to post his picture on the net).
