VeniteMe -> Looking for keyed alike locks (4/14/2005 8:50:50 PM)

I am looking for a large number of keyed alike padlocks. I have grown tired of using many keys to open my locks. I was wondering if anyone knew of a website or store where I could find them.

Thanks,
Michael

WalMart sell these really nice little Master padlocks. They're black and gold. Nice looking. They come in packs of two, I thnk. I bought several packs. The keys are all the same.

Go to a lock and key place, or maybe even your local hardware. You can take any key that is the master lock m1 blank, and have any size padlock using that key blank keyed to the key that you already have. It is a special lock with a cylinder designed to have the key pounded in, and it sheers the pins inside to match the key.

I used to work at a mom and pop hardware store and we sold them all the time to large companies that didn't want to have tons of keys. It really isn't that much more expensive. I know for sure that Do it Best stores can order them if you can't find somewhere that has them in stock.

It a lot easier (and cheaper) to just special order keyed-alike lock sets from your local locksmith. They can order them in pretty much any size/quantity that you want.

You can also get padlocks that use standard handcuff keys! Now I just happen to have a few of these so it works perfect. I dumped all my old locks (except a few for personal special play) and bought a dozen of these.

Not sure where all they can be found, I picked up mine locally from a friend but try handcuff retailers like handcuffwarehouse.com

Master Lock (http://www.masterlock.com/) have ready sets of padlocks on same key.
In different sizes and designs.

Looks nice; black with "Master" printed in gold, or in brass, with "Master" pressed into the metal.
Since I can order them to me in Norway, I am sure they are easier available in USA.

Another reply mentioned the locks that take a handcuff key. If you are in the UK you can purchase these from Cathouse in Liversedge ,Nr. Cleckheaton. West Yorkshire. at £2.00 each. Another useful idea is to use thumb cuffs as padlocks. The beauty of this is that you can attach one of the cuffs to a ring on your wrist or leg cuff and the other link or cuff will not accidently lock until you put it through something. Thumb cuffs only cost about £4.00. The key is of course the same as handcuffs and the locks mentioned earlier.

Locksmiths have locks like this. They can oreder any number, you can get an account with them and call them up and say you need 10 more padlocks for whichever key you have. They will have the key on record.

Go to: www.mcmaster.com

This is probably the best online hardware supplier in the world...hands down. They sell everything from raw materials to cleaning supplies and usually ship the same day. A great place to buy just about anything.
