Does anyone know medically of any side effects of figging?  Is there any long term damage possible to the male prostate gland?  Has anyone experienced anything like a chemical burn from the spice that required days to heal?

masterlloyd -> Figging & Types of Ginger (4/3/2007 1:51:22 AM)

There are many types of ginger, almost 100, only about 12 a suitable for domestic use. What type of ginger do you have in mind. What colour is it?

petdave -> RE: Figging & Types of Ginger (4/3/2007 5:10:25 AM)

You usually don't use enough ginger to hit the prostate... i've gotten chemical burns from cinnamon oil, but never ginger, but different people have different skin reactions.

It is unlikely it would get even remotely close to the prostate.  For the most part ginger is mildly irritating and provides a nice squimyness in play.  But be very careful to know your partners allergies.  I have a friend who swells up if she touches any part of a ginger plant.

Thank you for the link SD69, but that tells nothing of the inherent dangers of damage to the rectum and other tissues from chemical burns.  In fact, all the posts I have researched on all the different sites refer back to a post from a single person.  A lengthy post that tells how to fashion a plug from ginger from a man named Michael.  Everyone seems to be blindly playing follow the leader.  The tissues found in the rectum and anal area are much different than those outside of your body and can be easily damaged.  My concern is chemical type burns from the ginger that could lead to an infection or other damage to the lining from the intense inflammation caused by the ginger.

FeelMyWhip -> RE: Figging (4/3/2007 8:49:09 AM)

I don't follow the posts saying you don't use enough ginger to affect the prostate gland.  I thought this was part of the reason people used it on male submissives - to milk the prostate.  BTW, the prostate gland is near the anus, just behind the point where the penis and testis attach, and lies against the rectal canal, as does the seminal vesicles that hold and produce semen.

Domin8tingUrDrmz -> RE: Figging (4/3/2007 9:02:07 AM)

Back in Maryland there was a toll free number (Ask-A-Nurse) you could call with medical questions, they answered anonymous questions as well.  I am not sure if there is such a thing where you live, but I imagine a medical professional would have the answer you are seeking.  If anonymity is not something you are concerned with, perhaps ask your own gynecologist, I'm sure they would know something of that nature.

GrizzlyBear -> RE: Figging (4/3/2007 9:46:11 AM)

I do it myself and know a number of other afficianados of figging, and have not heard of any problems such as burns.  But everyone I know who does it, does it in moderation.  I suppose like anything else it could be overdone.  I have never left the root in for more than 30 minutes and have never repeated in less than a week.  A continuous treatment would be outside my range of experience and probably would be asking for trouble.

Normally ginger takes several minutes to take effect, and the effect begins to subside immediately when the root is removed.  Immediate severe pain,  pain that continues long after removal, blood on the root after removal, bleeding from the rectum or blood in the stool, is a contraindication to its further use (or any other form of anal play) and a sign that a doctor should be consulted..

You need to learn a bit more about the male anatomy if you are going to be torturing it.  Since the prostate is not inside the rectum, but is in the abdomen anterior to it and has no ducts or similar structures connecting it to the rectum, the prostate is not going to be affected by the ginger, it will never come in contact with it.  Unless you manage to perforate the rectum by jamming in a sharp object, or ulcerate it with overuse of any irritant - then you have much worse problems than just damage to the prostate, like peritonitis.

Use the same care playing inside a male ass as you would if playing inside your own ass and you should have no trouble.

FeelMyWhip -> RE: Figging (4/3/2007 1:12:51 PM)

I am aware of the structure of the male anatomy.  I also know that the type of tissue located in the rectum (pseudostratified ciliated epithelium) does not have a protective barrier as your skin (stratified squamous epithelium) and is more susceptible to damage.  i worry about the chemicals and inflammation doing damage to the mucuous glands and tissues.  The prostate lies against the rectum and my question was in regards to the chemicals passing through the tissue membranes.  I cannot find any qualified medical answers to these questions.  I would have thought that since this seems to be such an accepted form of play that someone would have checked out the possible medical side effects.  Just because you feel "OK" after play does not mean that it isn't or didn't cause damage.

Hi,
Been doing some research for you. Came up with this link. It doesn't answer your question, but it does give you some history.
I'll keep looking to see what else I can find

http://www.herbindex.net/ginger.html
Here is another source of information...

You are right, doesn't seem that there is an article that address this question.
My educated guess would be that it's ok concidering it's been done for many many years and there are no reports of anyone haveing issues with doing it. I would have thought that there would have been some kind of article if it caused damage to people or horses.
In light of the lack of information I would suggest that you call your doctor and ask her or him about your concerns.

I hope this helps....

FeelMyWhip -> RE: Figging (4/3/2007 10:23:50 PM)

Thank you for your research.  I am guessing that if someone went to the doctor for anal problems associated with this type of play that they wouldn't be sharing what "REALLY" happened with the doctor.
It is amazing to me that people would risk their health, and possible serious infections by burning the inside of their rectums with a chemical - any chemical...ginger, peppers anything, without knowing more about the possible damage it could cause.  You could have scar tissue that wouldn't cause you any problems for years, then when you get older create problems.

submissiveboy48 -> RE: Figging (4/4/2007 5:30:19 AM)

Hi,
This is very true, but I can tell you this, I have had figging done to me and it was not painful at all. I also had my doctor do a check on me in that area and no problems were found. I will however ask my doctor on the 11th about this when I go to him for my appt.
I'll let you know what say when I find out.

SweetBobbie -> RE: Figging (4/4/2007 6:27:11 AM)

Well speaking as a physician although with no personal experience in figging (at least not yet) i very much doubt there is any significant risk.  Bear in mind that any and all rectal play has a minimal element of risk from the very nature of the anatomy.  That being said the rectum also has one of the greatest healing potentials of any area of the anatomy.  During birth from 5-15% of women will tear from the vagina to the rectum and will expose the tissues to feces, yet as long as the tear is recognized and properly sutured no antibiotics are needed and infection and other complication is extremely rare.  The rectal mucosa is very sensitive to irritant chemicals such as ginger, capsaicin or methyl salicylate (the active ingredient in Icy Hot and Ben Gay) but it is a sensory sensitivity not a damage sensitivity.  I would agree with the recommendations written earlier of less than 30 min, and not more often than once a week, and finally if any irritation persists longer than a few minutes after removal or any bleeding occurs further medical evaluation is recommended.  Also of course beware allergies, someone will be allergic to anything.  BTW i did an extensive search of the medical literature and was unable to find one reference to rectal injury from ginger and if it were anything but very rare someone would talk and the case would be reported.

FeelMyWhip -> RE: Figging (4/4/2007 10:14:29 AM)

Thank you Bobbie.  I went to "ask a doc" and some other sites today to resolve this question.  What is your field?
The other docs pretty much backed what you said, that if used extensively, it can do damage - but none from short term use.
My Mistress is pissed at me now because I questioned another Dominants position on this topic when he said he had no problems.  I just asked if he researched it or not - there are so many that will try something on their submissive, just because someone else has done it,  without checking for possible side effects or permanent damage.

SweetBobbie -> RE: Figging (4/4/2007 11:24:08 AM)

my speciality is Ob-Gyn with thirty plus years of practice.  i understand about pissing off your Mistress, good luck.  i usually just suffer through the pain and try to avoid the same mistake in the future.

LordGreybearXX -> RE: Figging (4/5/2007 6:01:10 AM)

Actually, at one time figging was an accepted medical practice. (Of course so was blood letting and using onions in a room to kill infection).  I first read of figging in a friends fathers collection of old medical books. It suggested a ginger fig be used prior to an enema to give better results. Perhaps there is something to be said for that practice, since the enema would tend to rinse the oils from the ginger from the rectum....
Be Well...and play nice

Yes I am quite aware of the tissues are different...I might suggest toothpaste appled on a dildo to see just how much one might favor a step up in sensitivty with ginger.
