"It was not exactly Richie and Potsie getting lucky up at Inspiration Point.

Not, in other words, what people of a certain age are inclined to think of when they think of teen sex: girls who put out and guys who reach third base. Rather, it was a squalid, loveless and depressing example of what teen sex too often devolves to these days: a New Year's Eve party in adjacent hotel rooms, a cache of liquor and marijuana, and at least two girls servicing at least six boys, orally and vaginally, while a video camera ran.

Three years later, Genarlow Wilson of Douglasville, Ga., is a convicted child molester serving 10 years without parole for what happened that night. Last week, the Georgia Senate allowed a legislative deadline to pass without taking action on a bill that would have empowered a judge to reconsider -- and reduce -- his sentence. But Emanuel D. Jones, a senator who co-sponsored the bill, says that isn't the end of it..."

That's a pretty messed up situation.  Happy 18th birthday, the party is OVER!

I'm not sure if the link is working for everyone (it didn't here); let me try to find another one

http://www.aberdeennews.com/mld/aberdeennews/news/opinion/17024145.htm?source=rss&channel=aberdeennews_opinion

Yeah, there's alot of messed aspects of the story, one of which is "when you consider that as Wilson's trial was unfolding, a 27-year-old teacher was being found guilty just down the hall of sex with a 17-year-old student - the kind of crime for which child molestation statutes were written. She got three years' probation and 90 days in jail."

Level,

The link you provided wanted me to register as a user....so i didn't get the information from there...but googled the name Genarlow Wilson and came across this site.  It not only gives the story, but gives links if people want to contact legislaters...etc...

Thanks for the thread,  as a mother of teen aged sons, i can only imagine how i would have felt, if it were my own son.  Teen on teen sex (within a year or two.... not 19 yr olds and 13 yr olds)...while not desirable should not result in a 10 year sentance...nor land the teen in question on the sex offenders registry for life.
Below is the link i spoke of...

Allow me to rephrase;  You've reached the age of consent, the party is OVER.

As if mandatory minimums weren't bad enough, now we are getting 'no plea bargain' laws to go with them.

Hi spankmepink . I agree with you totally; this kind of thing bothers me, I wrote Tommy Thompson a letter regarding a similar case, years ago, when he was Governor of Wisconsin, and it bugs me now.

Agreed, Rich. It's a prime example of how inflexible the law can be, unfortunately.

You're welcome. I wished I were unable to find stuff like it, but it's a messed up world.
