grlneedstolearn -> Neck Concerns? (4/9/2007 6:05:30 PM)

Good evening,
i was able to play with my Dom earlier today, YEAH, and he left quite a while ago, but now it seems like my neck is on fire and feels like a rash. I did wear a hood and a patent leather collar. So i'm not sure what it could be. i'm used to wearing the collar, and the hood (which is all leather), wasn't even on that long. i've been putting some aloe vera on my neck to see if it goes away. Has anyone else felt this before? And any suggestions that i could to alleviate the burning besides aloe vera? i've also tried ice but it seemed to make it worse.
   Thank You

if it gets worse go to the doctor or if it doesn't go away soon go to the doc. I don't know of any reason that would happen but I am sure someone out there should.

Offhand, with this info I would say it is a reaction to something used in the treatment of the leather gear. It may even be something the gear was cleaned with, if it not new.

Tanning leather can be done a few ways, but there is more processing on top of that, to give it a shine, or the reverse, like a suede texture. You never know exactly what is in it.

The whole thing is also complicated by the fact that you have several different types of skin. It is different skin on your neck, than you face, on your arms etc., so things are hard to predict.

Doing the best I can to avoid post hoc thinking, the fact still remains that this happened after that. Avoiding post hoc ergo propter hoc in no way means that this can't be the cause. In fact I think it probably is. Avoiding  the wrong conclusion, in other words, does not mean that the obvious is not true.

If you have any allergies, state them. It may be related, especially if any of them involve meat or dairy.

Anyway, don't play with that thing for a bit, things should clear up, if they do, that tells you something. If you like you can do a few things.

Get it wet, wash it good, then re-treat it yourself. It may lose it's original appearnce, but it can be used. Tell you this much, if you get it wet and the water shows color, or black, that proves the dye used is water soluble. That means it is going to be absorbed by your skin.

So really you are better off letting it shrink and then using it, cause water will do that, but if the dyes and who knows what else are diluted, you should have less problems. But there is no getting around the fact that as you sweat, you will absorb chemicals from it. And if it is new, it is even worse.

That's my slant on it, hope it helps.

Also I was thinking did you sweat during the time you were wearing it? That might have something to do with it some type of heat rash or something. Just a thought.

It is new yes, and i wasn't sweating that much. It was getting hot and stuffy on the inside, so that may be a reason. Would i clean it with just warmy soapy water? Since it didn't come with any instructions on cleaning it or anything. Thank you to both for giving suggestions.

I have never washed mine and you can sweat inside it quite easily. If you can't find out how to wash it maybe some black electrical tape around where it bothered you might keep it from happening again, just a suggestion.

My suggestion is the same as Termyn8or's.  Most likely you
are allergic to something used to treat or dye the leather.

Cold water and baking soda can neutralize irritated skin.
If you still have problems in the morning it would be
best to see a doctor.

You should of course, talk to your Dominant and contact
the manufacturer for cleaning recommendations.

I agree it's probably something in the new collar that irritated you.
Maybe a allergy cream would help if it's an allergic reaction.
I also think I'd buy oatmeal and make a paste of it with warm milk.
Put it on your neck for about ten minutes. It will help draw any oils and things off your skin.
Another thing that's really good for cooling hot irritated skin (and even getting rid of poison ivy itch) is cabbage leaves.
buy a head of cabbage, break off a leaf, crumple it up so the skin of the leaf cracks open and rub the leaf on your skin. You can also just hold it against it for comfort and relief of swelling.

Like everyone else says if it becomes more of a real rash and less looking like an irritation, or it lasts more than a day without improving some I'd also recommend going to have it checked out by your Doctor.
Good luck,
suzanne

ty to all, the burning did go away. But there's still a very slight irritation whenever i put my hand back there or if i lay on it wrong. i will try the cabbage idea and the oatmeal with warm milk.
