You got love the "Moonlanding never happened" folks though.  Every single piece of evidence they present is BS.  I love the one about where are the stars in the pictures.  Its freaking daytime in the pictures, of course you can't see stars in daytime.  There is no sky so its not blue in the day on the moon.  But there do seem to be enough gulible fools out there for them to make a living peddling this stuff.

An example of the Big Lie is Reals insistance that the building fell nice and neatly into its own footprint.  Hence it had to be a controlled demolition, and there was no way building 7 could have been damaged.  It is very important that you swallow this lie, as the other parts of the silly theory are based on it.  http://www.zombietime.com/wtc_9-13-2001/  However anyone interested  can simply look at the widley available pictures to see that the building did not," came dowen so nice and neetly".

As to what Bush said, if you inserted a "that" into the sentace it makes perfect sense, and in speech it is often left out.   I saw on TV (that) a plane had hit the towers.

Darn it, Lucky, I was just getting ready to edit to thank Real for not insisting we go there.

Sorry heretic, I just feel compeled to protest everytime I see people pushing these lies.  Silence is consent.

I wonder if the "Global Warming" believers and the flying saucer (UFO) groups are going to merge?
They both see things that aren't there.

That is completely untrue. A large share of UFO sitings end up being secret planes the government is working on. That isn't even in debate.  If your clumping UFO's with alien contact well you could be on to something.

UFO just means Unidentified Flying Object, by definition every classified military plane will fall in that category, and the military will say it's something else.

What has caused you to reject something you believed to be true?  Made you close your mind to something you were open to?

I've been thinking about this lately. I used to believe that a solution could be found for the world. One in which at least the large majority of the people could agree on.

Over the past few years, of becoming even more economic, and politically aware. I've abandoned that notion, which is a common solution for people can work. The reason for that is there is only one constant between most any group, and that is that of self-benefit. Each group of people whether that be, Democrats,Republican,Black Panther, KKK, Wal-mart,Tyson Foods, Mexico,US, UK, EU, Catholics,Christians, Global Warming Enthusiasts, Socialist, Capitalist,Family, etc...... The underlying premise of most groups is promotion of themselves and their gain, whether that be monetary, political, or social power. No group I'm aware of rallies for policies that would be a detriment to their membership. Hence, Every group rallies for policies that they perceive would "benefit" their group. Which leads to the conclusion that almost all cause based people are "self-interested", and only join a cause out of motivation for some form of personal gain.

Examples:
The poor want more taxes to the wealthy(self-interested), nothing more.
The rich want less taxes to the wealthy and more fixed tax rates despite income(self-interested), nothing more.
I've noticed most severe Global Warming people are also anti-corporate(self interested), nothing more.
I've noticed racial advocacy groups, only get upset when it is their race being persecuted(self-interested),nothing more.
Religious groups tend to protect the flock, at the detriment of their professed ideas(self-interested), nothing more.

Now all that being said, I'm sure there are some groups that would fulfill the non-self-interest  criteria. But these are so outnumbered by the self-interest groups as to be inconsequential on the National scale.

So, why does this destroy my view that people can somehow come to a common ground. Well, what it says to me, is that people in the vast majority of cases, will only "Join" a group or be "Active" in promoting change when it serves their "own" self-interest.

Thus, my conclusion is the vast overwhelming majority of people aren't concerned with fair, or equitable solutions, but with ones that support self-interest at least when it entails more than lip service.

I'll admit I'm more focused on groups that are political, or economic in nature. I'm not really interested in charities, as those groups goals aren't usually to effect government or economics.  I'm speaking of change motivated groups. Change in government, economics, or social upheaval.

Yes.  Some simple, universal truth, that would make the entire planet say, "well, Duh," and give us a perfect understanding.  Something a bit more applicable to ethical challenges than "the gravity always wins, eventually" which is as close as I think we've come so far.

Welcome to my world, NeedTo!  [:D]

Although I do have a certain level of hidden idealism.  I think many people believe that they are being "fair" and "equitable".  But generally it's just a rationalization for their own beliefs.

I think you've hit upon the key point that will lead you to "free markets" as well.

The trick, to ensure the most "fair" outcome is to set up the "system" so that competing ideas and interest groups cancel each other out as best you can, leaving the majority of individuals the freedom to seek out and serve their own best interest.

Rich,

You may enjoy an essay recently published called "Seeing the Unseen Part 2".

The introduction:

(This is the long-overdue second part of an examination of the value of critical thinking. Part 1 is here. The final installment will deal with the issue of Global Warming)

Occam’s Razor is the idea that when confronted with competing theories that explain certain data equally well, the simplest one is usually correct. It’s called Occam’s Razor, and not Occam’s Hypothesis, or Occam’s Theorem, or Occam’s Bit of Useful Advice, because it is a razor – it cuts cleanly and with great efficiency.

And though it pains me to say so, this culture is in desperate need of a shave.

IT’S A CONSPIRACY!

I want to forgo the niceties of the hot towel and go straight for the jugular on this one. My goal here is not to bust any of these four conspiracy theories; that has all been done much more effectively elsewhere. What I am trying to do here is to build a chain of evidence to show a progressively deteriorating epidemic of world-wide insanity, of truly diseased thinking -- not just a misunderstanding or difference of opinion but real, diagnosable mental illness.

I want to get to that disease in a minute -- and the cause of it too – but first let’s examine what some people claim to believe in and the mountains of sand one has to carry in order to bury one’s head so deep.
