i also have large breasts and it took over a year for mine to finally stop giving me greif.  i was unable to wear rings until just recently.  The barbells are free to move more and help keep the crusties from forming.  i was also told that the nipples dont ever actually heal, i am not sure how true that is but it is something i was told.  When i would wear rings i was at the point of taking them out and not puting them back in but i listen to the guy that did my peircings and gave it more time with the barbells and now i am doing pretty good with them.

i had rings.  i didn't think it took them that long to heal just remembered to continually turn them.  Can't comment on the length of time based on how well endowed [:(].  Unfortunately mine are closed as i had to take the rings out when i had surgery.

It pretty much boils down to rings bad, barbells good.

When you're pierced, the wound is a straight channel through the nipple.  Putting a ring in that straight wound channel immediately distorts it and puts an increased amount of pressure on the entrance, center and exit portions of the wound.  The body reacts by slowing the growth of new cells where the pressure is and filling in behind with new tissue, usually scar tissue.  This is what causes piercings to migrate out. 

Anyone who has had braces knows just how this works.  The braces put steady pressure on the teeth and the cells in the jaw break down in line with where the pressure is and new bone fills in the void left behind the tooth.  This is what makes braces work and what allows your teeth to move.

By comparison, a barbell doesn't apply pressure to any points in the wound channel.  It's not distorted and can heal without dealing with the added trauma and irritation a ring creates.  This isn't to say that you can't heal nipple piercings on rings, it's just a harder, especially if the rings are small diameter.  The larger the diameter, the less pressure you impart on the piercing.

When mine were pierced they were freehanded (no clamp) then teflon barbells, which help with healing since they can bend with the body when the nipple tightens instead of the hole pushing and pulling on the stainless steel. After about 9 months I switched to the stainless steel. I have always used barbells, with or without stirrups or shields. Mine are now over 2 years old and I still sometimes get crusties, but just keep them clean and they are fine.

Okay this may sound crazy to ask since it does involve a sensitive area of the body but does it hurt alot? I have heard it does and I have heard it doesn't and I am not really big into that kind of pain.

the wonderful thing about the H2Ocean spray is that i could hold it to
one side of my nipple and it would shoot into the hole easily as I turned my rings.
But it was pretty pricey..small can of it at my piercer's was 9 bucks.
I had to have surgery 7 months after,and lots of x rays before hand ,so I simply got plastic barbells
and used those those for replacements for a few weeks.
One of mine seems to be pierced deeper than the other,,and every time I play hard it gets
ucky
I bought a new pair of rings,but I'm thinking maybe I will use barbells for awhile .
And in answer to the OP..
it hurt like hell but it was sooooooo good.I was covered in sweat and was dizzy.
I felt "tested"..
And  I would do it over in a heart beat.
I have heard stories of woman losing sensation in their nipples after piercing and
that saddens me..I gotta tell ya..my nipples feel great..
I breast fed three kids,and I believe that because of that my nipples retained
their sensitivity.I could be wrong.

Okay, neosporin is a bad idea!

I have C size breasts.  The original piercing was done with a hoop, and the hoop was too small, and so the piercings migrated.  Once the hoops were replaced with curved barbells, they healed fine.

If you have straight barbells, then you are still putting outward pressure on the piercing itself.  Try a curved barbell, that may work better.

I've heard that guys have more options.  My guy friend has a ring, another has a barbell.  I would ask a really good piercer that question.

personally i hate pain and i felt like it hurt like hell.  i screamed.

the thing that was difficult to deal with during the nipple piercings was the fact that it's really a prolonged pain. it hurt when he was putting the needle through, hurt when he was putting the jewelry in, and all of that took several seconds. it wasn't like getting my ears or hood pierced, both of those were really quick and the pain only lasted an instant. also, nipple piercings are very painful for the first day or so. the thing that kept me from getting them pierced for so long was my fear of the pain, and it didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as i imagined it would...but it did hurt.

Just a word of caution about using any petroleum based stuff like neosporin. It can block the piercing and cause infection inside were the neosporin cant reach. The best thing to use is a solution of non iodized sea salt once a day. The h2ocean spray is great stuff but its over priced. Definitely go see your piercer asap

My nipples have been pierced for approx 6 years now.  They healed rather quickly.  I do not wear a bra, I have rings.  I have a sensitivity to gold and silver so when I had them pierced it was suggested I use niobium (sp?) rings,  when I have changed them to another metal I have a reaction within hours.
However still after 6 years I find there are at times crusties on the rings and I have to ensure I rinse then very well in the shower otherwise I find they get irritated.
I love them as does Master so in the long run it is well worth the little extra care required.

phoenix, thank you for the info on the neosporin :) i am continuing with sea salt soaks and i did end up ordering some h2ocean - i'd just like to see how it works.

owned, thanks for your post :) it's good to hear from someone who has had a good experience. i really like mine, but i do get frustrated sometimes with the healing time and the difficulty (especially due to breast size), and i know He does also...i love having them, though, and i think i'll be happy that i haven't given up on them.

sea salt and sunshine, and clean non-reactive hardware.

Non-reactive means different things to different people.
The lightweight acrylics are inexpensive to try out if metals
are causing trouble.  Lots of color options too.

To the OP, I'm a DD and had both of my nipples pierced a year ago with 14g, 9/16" barbells. My piercer advised against captive bead rings because they have a tendency to flip up when you're putting your bra on, and on a new piercing, that hurts like hell.

I still have discharge and soreness occasionally, but I've found that washing with Provon soap and using H2Ocean helps a lot. Any piercing sites I've consulted, as well as the guys that do my piercings, have advised that nipple piercings can take a year or more to heal. If you engage in any sort of rough nipple play, that can increase the healing time.

Acrylics are a less than ideal choice for piercings that aren't fully healed because it's very easy to scratch them and scratched jewelry in fresh piercings is a bad thing.  Once you're healed, go nuts.

Just for everyones information - surgical stainless steel can have nickle in it.  This is the major allergen for most people with metal allergies - my self included.
If you break a bone and need rods or pins and you have a nickle allergy, the surgeon should put in titanium, not stainless steel.  therefore if you have a metal allergy perhapes you should consider having titanium piercings.

My Master is wanting me to get my nipples pierced and I want to for him, I fear they will decrease my sensitivity and cause problems with my work as a massage therapist. I am a 36 DD and want any advise on how painful and the fear of lose! Help please?
