As many of you know i am a wire jeweler, and am somewhat new to BDSM.  i am wondering what Master's/Dom's look for when they purchase a collar for their slave/sub?  Do you Guys want one for play as well as one for daily wear, and if so what would they look like?  Would it have gemstones or crystals, and would you want it to say your name?  Would it be a solid band or some sort of chainmaile?  What do ya think?

Thanks for your ideas,
wireweaver

An everyday collar should be comfortable (In my opinion) and it should be something that a sub can wear everyday without people gawking at them. A play collar should be strong and durable with a ring on it for a leash attachment. I personally prefer metal over leather, though leather does look nice. My male sub would rather not have any stones or anything but some celtic designs would be nice.

If it is for a female slave, or a femenized male one, I could see a collar being fairly ornate.  Problem is that the more interesting looking ones would have to be formal collars, but not really everyday ones. For something everyday, I prefer metal and extremely simple.  A small woven wire that cold be hidden under a shirt collar is what I like on my pets.  That way if there is a reason to hide it, its easy as buttoning an extra button at their throat.  And for everyday, comfort is a must. If they cant wear it comfrtably, then hiding it or not, everyone will know they are wearing soething they dont want to be wearing.
As for play collars, I tend to go for thick, lined leather so that if I decide to yank on someones leash or collar I dot worry about leaving marks.
I dont believe I have ever had a single collar that functioned for both play and everyday use. Actualy, as of now, Angel doesnt have one for everyday wear at all since his build doesnt alow for just abot any jewelry to be worn comfortably.

Mine is a very simple wine red leather one.  The leather is about a 1/2 wide and has a delicate D ring at the front and a tiny buckle at the back.

Metal, unornamented, locking, with O ring.

Well for everyday basic collars, usually a link chain- anything from a fine jewelry quality to a thick home depot thing, or a choke dog collar, a jewelry choker, or a metal eternity type locking collar.

For scene usage, a thick leather or metal with solid attachment points, at the very least a metal O ring.  I remember a dinner at Leather Retreat where you could hear hundreds of O rings tinkling on leather collars and being quite amused by that.

Most people want a collar that looks uniquely enough like a collar, but passes for not too unusual in any context.

Amen to that..
My girl's collar is a screwdown wire-style one from bonadagecollars.com.
Her mother just returned from a to Mexico with a silver charm that she thought would look nice on my girl's new "necklace"

females can get away with more in public than guys can. i think it would be really cool to see more males wearing the plane band type collars in public. my prediction would be some fashion big wig would see a male wearing one with other-wise normal street clothes, then it would be a big fashion trend for a while, then no one would notice them at all. this happened with the long skirts i've worn since jr. high. they hit huge in fashion a few years back, and now they're as every-day as a pair of jeans.           it just takes a few brave souls, at least those are my thoughts on the matter.      Phoenix

I have three of them.  One is leather with a little metal charm hanging from it, the other is a choker (dog one), and the last one is a pink 1" leather one with an "o" ring on the front.

I wear whichever one I am in the mood to wear.  I just got the pink one, so I wear it pretty much everyday.  I don't think anyone thinks anything about it, if they do..that's okay also.

What does a Collar look like?

How do I define a Collar, made to subdue and enslave?
Where can I find such a thing as this?
Something I find I need to put on YOU, Miss.
A way to protect you from harm, your soul will I save.

Are Collars meant to denote the ownership of one to another?
Or, better, the gift of submission…
Will if fill an emptiness you’re missing?
Is it meant to make you see how much owning you is a bother?

Will Collars someday be mark the end of your will, where I begin?
An extension of my will to live…
An act upon the orders I give…
Perhaps it is simply the vessel that holds you, filled from within.

Is it best when made of Silver, Bronze, Leather, Stone, or Gold?
Can a Collar be defined in presence?
A present made of your sweet essence?
Can a Collar, once given, ever be returned, bartered, or sold?

A simple Collar, so much is said; so much unspoken, yet defined.
You gift, yes, your pledge to ME.
Your FEALTY forever BE.
The BEST collars, methinks, are those that exist ONLY in your MIND!

Quality is a must...specially if the collar is used in rough play. You don't want the buckle or ring snapping off when yanking, it might hurt someone.

For every day wear, something simple. For a female, 1/2 - 1 inch, leather...maybe have some lace on it or a small medalion of some type. Something that could be worn to work and look as if it's a normal choker. For a male, a plain leather collar, of course it can have some type of medalion as well to make it a bit fancier and be able to be worn out as well.

For play, I usually like steel collars line with lether to make it more cofortable. Looks don't really matter to me in play. As long as the collar has good quality and it's comfortable for my pet.

One of my past slaves said the best collar she ever had , was handmade by a friend of mine. It was quite simple, but comfortable for the pet I had at the time. It was a simple beaded collar with my initials in it. The collar itself was green and blue with gold letters. She still has it.

i agree about the leather.  There is a little shop in Dallas the sells some really nice sets of collars and cuffs.  i LOVE mine.

i am really looking for ideas of what kinds of collars to be made from either gold or silver for everyday wear.  Precious metal only though.

So far you guys have given me some pretty good insight!!!  Thanks!!!

Now, what about metaphysical stones?

Metaphysical stones a/k/a Crystals are typically non-precious stones used for healing and balancing of the mind, body and spirit.  the most common stones for this are Quartz Crystal, Amethyst, Citrine etc.  any stone can be used for this purpose but each has a unique effect based upon metaphysical principles.

For example Citrine is a sunny bright orange.....so it assists the person carrying or wearing it with maintaining a sunny disposition.  Ideally stones used for these purposes are carried close to the skin....but as long as it is with the person - the energy is conveyed to the bearer.

that is my opinion, preference and how I wear my stones.  your mileage may vary lmao. hope that helps answer your question

I've never given a permenant collar, so I'm unsure of exactly what I'd want it to be like right now.  Being younger, I must acknowledge that many relationships tend not to work out at this age.

For the most part, up until now, my slaves have either had their own collars (which struck me as odd, but they wanted to have one to wear for the day of their collaring.. cute, in a way).  However, I've gone to Wal-Mart and bought a doggie collar from the pet section before.  Actually, my sub at the time grabbed my hand and started running, begging for me to go with her.. apparently, she had planned it out.  While I felt a little cheap for getting a $9 collar from Wal-Mart, she seemed to enjoy it.  She was a pet sub (pet RP in the sub stance as opposed to the pet stance), so she enjoyed having a collar specifically made for an pet dog.  Even got her the matching leash.

in the process of cleansing them you do in effect end up charging them in a fashion - if nothing else by simply releasing them of the stuff they picked up they are renewed.

FYI in case you didn't know :
Amethyst will loose its lovely color if exposed to sunlight - it will become clear
Selenite will dissolve in water

WireWeaver if you would like to talk stones and crystals feel free to email me - they are a passion of mine and I am always happy to discuss and educate where I can :)
