Yet another Judge who allowed this to happen to another youngin.
Children and animals: disposable commodities in our culture. Sad.

shoot another wack job who uses the pretense of kink to be a sexual predator.  As usual the BDSM world will be blamed for his insanity

I really don't see any connection to BDSM in this case, nor kink.
Maybe it's me. < shrugs>

That's part of the sad point.  The media uses the verbiage to attract readers.  In the end, it hurts US.

Nogimmicks -> RE: SC "Sex Dungeon" trial to begin (CNN) (4/27/2007 7:56:20 AM)

I agree.  Aside from vernacular terminology like "sex dungeon", the case has nothing at all to do with BDSM.  In fact, it has a lot to do with pedophilia and possibly rape (although that was not proven).  Even so, it is sad that the culture will absorb the feedback.  Maybe it is time to stop using terms like "slave" and "dungeon" for the things we do.  There are no "slaves" in BDSM, only consenting adults who feel a need to accept the opposite position of someone elses dominance.  Truthfully, they really aren't even "submissive" in the classic sense.  Most of the "slaves" I have known with have the strongest wills and characters I have ever been exposed to.  Anyone who doesn't agree should go out of his way to "piss" one off sometime, the result will be enlightening.

Kalbar -> RE: SC "Sex Dungeon" trial to begin (CNN) (5/3/2007 12:38:26 AM)

As you've all said this will reflect on the lifestyle.  Merely because of the word dungeon.

As for Nogimmicks comment, I agree.  I try my hardest not to use the word 'slave'.  Simply adding the word 'consentual' works wonders however.
And as for most consentual slaves being strong people, I agree again.  It takes a lot of guts, dedication and sacrifice to choose this life.  The weak don't last all that long.

subbecky -> RE: SC "Sex Dungeon" trial to begin (CNN) (5/3/2007 12:42:39 AM)

i'm sorry, but i don't care how it reflects on us. i won't change what i call myself for anyone. i am a sub hoping to be a slave someday and damn proud of it. i don't care who knows.

Kalbar -> RE: SC "Sex Dungeon" trial to begin (CNN) (5/3/2007 4:40:48 AM)

That's admirable but the word slave can even give other subs/slaves the irks.  I'm currently speaking with a girl who is very new to the scene and despite all that I've told and taught her about the lifestyle, we needed to sit down and discuss that very word.
Have you tried talking to your mother father or someone close to you about your chosen lifestyle?  If you ever decide to do that, you decide rather quickly to search for a word that won't screw with people's head's quite as much.

I can't see how this has anything to do with bdsm, nor do I think it was it implied in either of the article links.

We certainly didn't coin the term "dungeon".  The word has been used in a myriad of ways for centuries on end ranging from Vincent Price novels to modern day computer games.

The media made no attempt to blame bdsm for this man's crime.

Kalbar -> RE: SC "Sex Dungeon" trial to begin (CNN) (5/3/2007 5:32:26 AM)

I completely agree and understand that it's stupid but, the victim being tied up and held in a dungeon is enough for the minds of the foolish to work up to a subconcious feeding frenzy.
They won't outwardly blame the BDSM community of course, but it's a fact that the BDSM community has been regarded as perverse and full of 'freaks'.  So it's my opinion that a large number of the vanilla community will associate crimes of this nature with it.

Maybe I'm wrong. I sincerely hope I am.

HardnRuff -> RE: SC "Sex Dungeon" trial to begin (CNN) (5/5/2007 9:45:10 PM)

as unfortunate as it is , indeed just the word dungeon and bound will shed yet another hauntingly bad light at the Bdsm comuinity . because like was mentioned it is supposedly full of freaks and unwanteds to the outside world . at least they got another that gives Uus all a bad name off the streets .

DocTSH -> RE: SC "Sex Dungeon" trial to begin (CNN) (5/6/2007 5:27:17 PM)

I don't think it really has anything to do with the lifestyle, however what anyone chooses to read into the headline grabbing sensationalistic story, is just that...what they choose.  Again it doesn't have anything to do with the lifestyle and certainly has no effect on me.

LadyMorghanna -> RE: SC "Sex Dungeon" trial to begin (CNN) (5/6/2007 5:52:35 PM)

I certainly didn't have BDSM jump into my head when I read the story. As to the use of dungeon to describe the "hole in the ground", I am not sure what else you would call it except maybe a hand dug dirt cellar, however, when you work in a business where wordiness is frowned on, dungeon says it all and as far as being tied...they were tied. They weren't shackled or handcuffed so that leaves tied. What amazes me is that the guy was acquitted. Now that left my jaw hanging.
