I would never have children. I think thats the only area of my life I would change if I could go back in time. Bringing children into this sucky planet just spells sadism to me.

Wow, that's a real shame and nihilistic to boot. Watching my children grow and raising them to be good adults gives me hope. Maybe I misunderstand your post.. but do you seriously regret having your children like that?

StellaByStarlite -> RE: Who are you... who could you have been? (4/20/2007 4:39:35 AM)

Haha, Ms. Puella.. this is a sure as shootin' case of  "If I knew then what I know now" .

Living the footloose bohemian life isn't what it's cracked up to be. I met a lot of broken screwballs going down that path. When you're surrounded by people who live from moment to hedonistic moment, it's all too easy to make really bad choices.

If I could do it all over again, I'd have slowed down on the partying and finished college. I'd have been a lot more concerned with my future and my health.

But on the other hand, my past experiences have given me streetsmarts and resourcefulness. I'm nobody's fool, which will come in handy once my Ums hit their teen years. =) So, there are regrets and there are Regrets. I don't waste that much time with the "I shoulda" game, it's counterproductive.

One thing is for damn sure.. my little angels are graduating from college if I have to chain them to the dorm walls =)

Greetings puella

Being pretty young yet, this question really can not be answered by me. My life is still being shaped and I hope that it continues for many years to come [:)]

I can say though that who I am now, is the same person that I hope to be 60 years from now.

Considerate, kind, respectful, compassionate, loving, down-to-earth, at times feisty; all wrapped up in what is known as Master's property [:)]

I wish you well

I am jumping back to the op here.

I could have ruled the world, easily. I have a unique way of thinking, partly borne from my process of self education. With the proper enviroment I know I would be in a position of power to say the least.

I am glad I couldn't do this when I had the desire to do so. You see I have never llost a fight nor an argument, unless you count that time in fourth grade. I retrained both of my Parents. We are alot better off now.

We all came from renting, and now we sit on about a third of a million worth of property, with a whopping fifty grand owed on it, but our main residences are paid off, free and clear.

Lesson to be learned here is that once you demonstrate your unique value to a company or organization, it pretty much sticks. I will always smoke at work and I don't particularly give a shit if anyone cares. My last job went non-smoking which resulted in the owner of the company coming up to me and saying "Do I pay you to smoke ?", to which I replied "Handsomely". And I am thinking about my phone ringing, it always has.

Here is the deal, if I decided to work full time this is easily a $75,000 a year job, with practically no physical labor. I choose to work part time becuse I can make it, but of late it seeems they can't.

The proposal is "You facilitate me and I will make you more money then you have ever seen, but they do not do that.

Fine, let it go. I can build a house, purge a reactor, fix a car or a military transport, I can design and build hydraulic systems, I don't really want to deal with pneumatics.

People are going to do what they are going to do.

So I do not care.

T

In the end I come up with the conclusion that people really do not want to succeed.

If you are having these thoughts at 35, I can only imagine they will multiply as you get older.

I think your post is somewhat about fitting in and having possibilities in front of you. When you're young, your life matches up well with your peers and older people tend to be inclusive of you.

What I find about getting older is greater and greater separation from people as work and family responsibilities splinter and compete for "individual" time. Also, there tend to be awkward divides between marrieds and singles and married with children and those without.

Anyway, I'd like to find a little more adventure in life. I really feel like something is lacking, and I get little inspiration from those around me.

MMMMudd -> RE: Who are you... who could you have been? (4/21/2007 6:42:18 AM)

I think the issue danced around here is regret. Wouldn't we all have been better people if we'd been born more aware of our worth younger? If we'd have had some wizdom to go with our arrogance? Sure.

Liniar time is a bitch, we guess at what might happen tomorrow, next week, based on what happend today and yesterday. Then based on this crapshoot we try to prepare for it. As we look at what happend in the past we know what we might have done better or differently, but the part that we know about, and know how to prepare for can't be changed. A very wise man,(who also happened to be old) told me once.

"If things were a little different they would be a hulluva lot different"

I look back on when I was a teenager and then in my twenties and realise just how hard I worked to fit in with the expectations of others.
     ·        I dressed alternatively -just like all of my friends
·        I partied hard -so that people would think I was cool
·        I worked my way through uni – partly to follow my dream but also if truth be told to meet family/teacher expectations of me

… these are just some of the ways in which I thought I was bucking societal rules but I think you get my point.

As I have got older I have become so much more in tune with who I am so these days I wear clothes that I like (I do get told quite a bit that I have an ‘unusual’ dress sense and I choose to interpret that as being a positive! [:D]), I feel more confident about myself and my value as a person, I can quite happily make the first move with a guy without feeling guilty, I can ask for help and feel okay about this and I am happy to admit that I love my car more than I love most people! These days I will either wear or not wear make-up depending on if I want to or not, my hairstyles change from very long to boyishly short and my cd collection includes music from classical to punk to disco to metal to rap and everything in between.

I don’t have um’s or a significant other, I have a house (well my bank has a house), a job and an ability to do a little travelling so I am pretty free to do what I want.  Something which I have definitely noticed recently is that my capacity to feel joy has increased as I have got older and it does seem to be inversely proportionate to the challenges I have experienced – I am much more able to take pleasure in the small things in life.

Damn, I don't think I answered your question.... so what would I be if I was young, vigorous and unobligated - I think I would be a less laid back version of what I am now (though it would be kind of cool not to need to have a 'nanna nap' before I go clubbing!).  I am definitely thankful as I had dreams in life which have been realised and they could only have been achieved with time, patience and perseverance - none of which I had when I was younger.

Lots of people regret having their children. It's not at all unusual. People are usually just afraid to admit such a thing because people treat them like they've said something evil if they do.

I made a choice early on to be childfree and you'd be amazed the confessions I hear from "good parents". I would say that a good third of the women who had children seriously regret it and would do things differently if they could.

BS - i know alot of people who have tat's and piercing's and could care less about social acceptance.  Granted alot of the world is lame, but many people get body mod's for themselves and it has nothing to do with society.  i wasnt going to have "fuck the world" tatted on my shoulder at 14 because i cared about social acceptence or lack of it or anything at all.  I didnt have chinese charactors tatted on my other shoulder because i cared about any of that.  It was more of a symbol of a time in my life.  I had the black panther tatted on my chest because at 15 getting a tat sounded like a better use of my money then getting drunk.  Narrow view there.

I actually wouldnt change a thing about my life.  I've learned alot.

LaTigresse -> RE: Who are you... who could you have been? (4/23/2007 6:53:27 AM)

I have regrets but knowing where those things led I wouldn't change anything. Wouldn't do alot of them AGAIN......but don't think I want to change anything. Besides I am still plenty young and healthy enough to fit lots of stuff in before I move on.
