Approved for use in the US in 2006, this one doesn't contain nicotine and isn't classed as an anti-depressant like Zyban or Welbutrin.

If anyone here has tried it or perhaps know someone who has and could share any experiences, it would be most appreciated!!!

My mom.  She loves it.  It's pricy, but at this point the money she's saved on the smoking is equalled to the amount of the drug.  She had trouble breaking the social habits of smoking, and has to keep her hands busy, but she says she literally has NO cravings fori t.

Of course she's going to start weaning off when she comes to visit me...fun!

Oh and my mom has been a 2 pack a day person for about 3 decades.  Clean over three months now!

Right on, thanks, LA.

Yeah, it is pricey and the pharmacists says they know of NO insurance that covers it....but if it works, hey, in the long run it will be well worth it!!!!!

Three co-workers of mine used Chantix.  The first was in the trials prior to being put on the market.  He went about a year without smoking then the death of a friend weakened his defensives and he is smoking a pack a day again.  The second has been smoke free for about 6 months with no cravings.  She did have mild nausea though.  The third had nausea so bad she stopped taking it after a week.  She is still smoking.  I think it is worth trying; but, remember that you still have to have the willpower to say no to the psychological cravings.  Those are the hardest to overcome and for now there is not a pill for that.  Luckily, I have Tacs acting as my willpower when  mine has disappeared.

hello*soft smile*

i have been using Chantix for just over three weeks now.  have mentioned the wonders of it in my journal so much, that Someone contacted me about it, wanting to know if it was realy working for me, ect.  the answer is YES!  i have NO cravings or physical symptoms of withdrawl, what-so-ever.  the first week after quitting, i did have a constant feeling as if there was something i should be doing, or something i was forgetting...but that was just my mind dealing with the concept of NOT smoking anymore.  that passed, and other then dreaming about smoking sometimes*chuckles*  i have no issues, no problems and no cravings for a ciggerette, anymore!

i guess i'm one of the lucky ones, in that i have'nt had any of the side effects that Chantix can cause, like the nausea.

but...yes, just wanted to chime in, in support of the medication.   as for it's price, it was priced to cost about $5.00 a day, or about the same amount somebody who smoked a pack a day, would spend on the actual ciggerettes.  pricy?  yes.  but compared to paying and paying and PAYING for the ciggerettes, for years and years and YEARS more, and all the medical bills from the health problems that smoking casues...never mind the eventual death factor...it is WELL worth it, to get the Chantix!

maybe it does'nt work for everyone.  but without giving it a try, one will never know, right?

thanks for sharing your experiences, megan2007!!!

Did you happen to sign up for the web-support that is offered, and if so, what do you think of their site and the activities there?

Best of luck on your quit as well!!!!

thank Y/you for the best wishes, so far so good!*nod nod*

i looked at the web-support resources offered, and thought about it...but did'nt feel a need to join it, myself.  i think in cases where somebody struggles with more then just the physical craving for nicotine, where it's also a big social part of their life perhaps, that the web-support might be of great assistance.  but i did not join myself, no.

My Mom is using it now. She is 78 and has been smokng since she was 13. She has not smoked in 4 weeks and feels great, says she has no desire to smoke. I also know a couple of co workers who are using it or have used it and they're doing good to.
I have my annual physical next month and will be getting a script from my MD too.

yw and thanks for the reply!!!  the interactive site looked like it might be a good way to track progress and help support folks who maybe don't have a lot of real/time support, and this slave figured what the heck, the more support the better, eh?

wow, thanks for the great report, mbmbn!!!

luckily, this slave has a prescription already for medication that takes care of the nausea, which is, allegedly, the toughest symptom of the Chantix.  this slave is hoping it will subside, though, and GOOD FOR YOU that you are getting help for yourself as well!!!

I have absolutely nothing to add about Chantix, but wanted to wish you the best of luck in quitting.  I quit smoking 3 years ago and understand the challenge of it.  Good luck!
