Being a diabetic, I tend to get yeast infections more frequently than others...When using a cream to cure a yeast infection (Monistat for example)...can the cream itself cause a little burning feeling when applied? Just curious.

Yes it can.  According to http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/mon1273.htm

Yes, often with yeast infections there are small broken areas in the skin this is where the irritation comes from.  As the infection heals the burning is less and less

FWIT, I'm not diabetic but being pregnant 4 times and just being female in general, yeast infections have been common for me.  I used to use creams but after doing some research on alternative methods, I use exclusively garlic, alone or with Azo Yeast, an over the counter tablet.   Google garlic and yeast infection to see what I'm talking about-- it's weird, but it works!  Even if i don't watch my sugar intake during an infection, I'm always better days before the cream ever worked.

It is still nice to have something to help with the outer itching/burning, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Oh yes, that cream can be quite aggravating! Luckily, I don't often get infections, but last year, girl....oooh. I had played too long and too much, which i don't regret, but ended up with a YI. After putting on the cream, I thought I was going to crawl out of my skin. My poor little girl down below was so angry...the only thing that helped me was to sit on the upholstered arm of a chair and grind into it (panties on, thank you very much), sort of relief, sort of omg I'm going out of my mind....it took about ten minutes to peel me off the ceiling.
(hope that wasn't too graphic)

I often have burning when using cream also, so I guess it is just something that happens when the tissue down there is inflammed and you are putting some kind of cream on it. That is my opinon I could be wrong tho.

Lucky me.....i've only had one yeast infection my entire life. Doc gave me pills for it though. Just by reading what others have said here...if I ever do get another...I sure as hell don't want another and get cream stuff. That's an area that just ain't made to burn that way. Can we say OW!?

To me it isn't a really bad burning feeling, it could be to others tho. The burning I experience is just a burning sensation and it goes away after the cream has been there a bit after it starts to soothe the tissues and fight the infection.

???? I can see putting yogurt down there for someone to have a sweeter taste...but vinegar? Well..unless your talking about cleaning.

Forgot my question to this....How does yogurt help YI?

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a species of friendly bacteria that is an integral part of normal vaginal flora. Lactobacilli help to maintain the vaginal ecosystem by preventing the overgrowth of unfriendly bacteria and Candida. Lactobacilli produce lactic acid, which acts like a natural antibiotic.
Lactobacillus acidophilus can be taken orally in the form of acidophilus yoghurt, or in capsules or powder. It can also be administered vaginally.

Do not use sweetened or flavored yoghurt vaginally.

Frankly, I keep a Diflucan capsule in my medicine cabinet just in case..and my doc gives me a refill if I use it.

Maintaining a normal glucose level helps ward off any infection.  I know it's hard but it's best to be preventative rather than reactive.  You'll thank yourself for it later on in life.

Best wishes.

Yes, burniong is a side effect.  If you have recurrent infections speak to both your endocrinologist and ob/gyn.  You may benefit from cyclical or prophylactic doses of Diflucan to avoid all the pain, discomfort, and mental anguish associated with the yeast infections.
