Can be! Anal tears are the first concern ... avoid having long fingernails and sharp rings on fingers ... wear gloves! Watch out for people who are intolerant to latex though, so I usually use vinyl gloves for that reason. Use heaps of lube, go slowly and gently. Start small (little finger) and work up each time, going a bit further over many times (don't expect to fist someone first off! Frankly if their ass is that slack that I could ... I'm not much interested in it!). Hygiene is crucial, lots of bacteria in faeces that really don't belong in people's mouths or bloodstreams. Be very cautious about rimming (or asking someone to rim you). It might not be common but there have been some very nasty cases of infection transmitted that way. Use condoms on toys to improve hygiene (also handy if you want to go from anus to pussy on a femsub ... just whip off the condom in between or put 2 on to start with!). Even with condoms on them, best to restrict the use of a particular toy to a particular sub. I never object using a sub's own anal toy rather than My own, I think it shows great sense and maturity on their part to own one and want to be safe from unnecessary hazard. Do make sure that toys don't suddenly get "swallowed up" by an over-enthusiastic rectum! It can be very unnerving to see one's favorite anal vibe doing a disappearing act! Have some sort of string attached ... or, as most condoms are longer than most anal toys, grab the end of the condom before it vanishes completely! Also note that prolonged over-distension of the rectum can cause problems with its normal function of accumulating waste ready for disposal without leakage, so is not really recommended. Don't leave toys in for days without attending to appropriate defaecation times and scrupulous hygiene. If using a strapon pay close attention to the angle of penetration, it can be hard to "feel" through the strapon to get it right. Getting the relative height of you and the sub right is so important.
