Some groups in my area have begun using evites to notify their mailing lists about events. No one keeps the list private. I received an invitation sent to 200 people, most of whom I don't know. Plus the sender used my real first name, not my sub name. Fortunately she did not use my last name.

Please, organizers, if you must use evite, don't publicize the list of recipients. Please respect the email addresses and identities of your members!!!

Just a suggestion about email use.  i use a D/s name for all my email within D/s groups.  i use a totally different one for mail with "vanilla" users.  Just my effort to make sure that my name wouldn't be publicized unknowingly.

That's pretty BS on their part.
One of the first things you learn about mailing-lists is that TO and CC are not your friend. Since the first person to hit reply or auto "out of office" reply, or "unsubcribe!!" will cause a flamewar.
BCC is your friend when herding the masses.

Giving your real name to stupid people who don't respect it, was within your control.

Well also, theres a function on evite that you can see your name and the host can see your name, but other guests cannot.

However, you do have to manually pick this function and I can imagine people forgetting.  It would be more than fine to email the host/ess and let them know you are coming but would like your name removed from the evite list because of that reason.

A club in the UK did this once and there was sheer hell to pay.
If you  have given your name and email to anyone and that anyone then uses that name on a database, then this person must make sure that your rights to privacy take priority over everything else. Failure to do that is breaking the data protection act and can have serious consequences.

We have membership for our club and that members name is never passed on to a third party (this includes other members) Promoters would love to get their hands on someone else’s database, in fact they are prepared to pay a lot of money for one.

What this person has just done (stupidly) is given a data base away and in doing that they have outed your name to a whole bunch of people.
What happens if this group are being investigated? It simply means that the police can now trace you.

Personally I would hit the roof.
