In the book American Theocracy, the author plantatively makes the point that 40% of the Republican electorate used to stay home and not vote at all. These were the Evangelicals that were not politically involved hardly at all, that has changed over the last couple of decades due to many factors. The point is, once these people are no longer being catered to, they will either become disenfranchised or emboldened to start their own party. They have had a taste of political power, so I am thinking a split for a party based upon religion is not inconceivable. These are not the types to compromise their positions, one does not compromise when they are a soldier of god, do they?

It makes a lot more sense for the Dims to split up. They're already fractured, and so they could easily become the Communist Party and the Socialist Party and the Feminist Party and the Black Power Party and the Green Party and the Reagan Democrats and the Pacifist Party, and so on.

Don't you think

He was extremely strong in regards to the 9-11 tragedy.  What about his number of his divorces and his wife's?  Also what about his opinions he voiced while he was mayor that is totally different than what the republican party stands for?  Can he stand up when he changes his mind to adhere to the party line?

Dont care about his personal life.  Not relevant to political views.

To get a mandate in the Republican party involves catering to the religious right.  Giuliani is pro-choice and not opposed to homosexual marraige, despite what his party wants him to be.

Then explain to me why so many of the religious right stayed home last election? I suppose that the excuses as to why the republicans are so corrupt tend to wear thin.

Alberto Gonzalez is being attacked even by the Republicans in the Senate, at least the moderate ones. The corruption of the Bush Admin is finally seeing the light of day, and truw believers will not believe in the republicans if they break faith with them, and they already have

I don't buy for a second that the "New" Gore is somehow the "Real" Gore.  Please send me more information about people who start moving in Hollywood circles and become more genuine.  I've never heard of such a phenomenon.

Winning?  I don't see him ever overcoming the Sore/Loserman tag.  The middle doesn't much care for whiners.

Interesting theory about the Democrats being fractured, Sanity.  Doesnt really stand up to analysis, however.

Which party was it that took control of both houses of Congress in the last election?

Sanity, I have often objected to the use of such derogatory terms by those on the Left.  I find it no less objectionable when it comes from the side I now find myself on.

Just try running your pro-war candidate Hillary Clinton, and we'll just have to see whose faithful where does what. You seem awfully confident in your razor thin majority win last time around... but you won't have the strawman Bush you devised over eight long years anymore. It's gonna be a whole new ball game, and I don't think you're going to like what happens next.

Did you expect President Bush to win last time around?

No, you were surprised when you had your ass handed to you, weren't you.

Let's just wait and see. I'm counting on the anti-war crowd to shout Hillary down in 2008

Let me get this straight, a mandate of perhaps 1% in an election fraught with electoral fraud qualifies in your mind as an "ass handing?"

Reagan getting elected was an ass handing.

Bush getting elected lies somewhere between a fluke and a criminal act.

I voted for Nader.

Thanks for assuming facts not in evidence.

I think you have read my opinions on Hilary Clinton. I would never vote for her, so how can she be "My" candidate? I plan on voting Green next election unless there is a responsible person that was against this war that gets nominated by either party.

I was a Kucinich supporter that switched to Nader. I do not know how my ass got handed to me, I am not a democrat

I am not a democrat, I did register as a dem to vote for Kucinich in that primary, and then went back to inde.... which I have been since I was 18. How can I split from something I never truly belonged to?

What happens, strumpet, is that many posters read something they disagree with which results in an adrenalin spurt into their bloodstream.

Adrenalin turns off higher functioning.

These people then post drivel and assume facts not in evidence and attempt to elicit an emotional response in the person they are attacking on the message boards.

The attitude I usually have when faced with these sorts is knowing that Mommy will come and tell them it is bedtime soon.  5th grade starts early.

Guiliani should be running as a Democrat. He's way too liberal.
And he's too weak on enforcing immigration laws.
That's an issue that not only isn't going away but getting stronger.
It'd be #1 if not for Iraq.
Whoever "owns" that issue will go on to win.
Mit Romney knows that and has been talking about it.

ostrichman1951 -> RE: Bomb, bomb, bomb.. (4/20/2007 8:59:03 PM)

There are not very many "true" Republicans anymore, there are only RINO's.

There is NOT a two party system when Bush and Kerry BOTH belong to the same club (skull & bones) that means they are all in cahoots .. and we have two sides to the same coin. Ever seen Aaron Russo's video called "Freedom to Fascism"?  The only way "out" of the mess the country is in lies in the Constitution and someone who can get elected who will truly stand by it.

Popeye, you just have to get past the immigration thing.  It's a lost cause.

Any Republican who pledges to deport the illegals will be just as full of shit as any Dem who swears we are getting out of the ME.  Our soft, spoiled, lazy generation of entitlement babies will be fine for running the video game, death machines (assuming whatever idiots in charge keep the control centers well dispersed and concealed) but our new Citizens are gonna get drafted as infantry to pay the admission fee....

This fringe element you are speaking to is among the most exploitable on the planet. The republican /neocon {however you wish to term it} hierarchy has mastered the art of exploitation by infusing their candidate with sorta of ''Divinity'' and then using the media to set up competing loyalty scenarios through wedge issues that surround a false-morality, religious dogma.

The neocons may well be liars, cheaters crooks and war mongers, but I just don't see them losing their ability to exploit the fringe anytime soon.

I've seen you write about this a few times, where I get the distinct impression that you feel Bush is some kind of *real* Christian zealot. Quite frankly....I don't think he's anymore Christian than you are - I think it's nothing more than phony, clever trick.

I think he kneels before the corporations at his bedside, not the Christian God.

Sir i care to disagree.  The Republican party will have a hard time endorsing someone based on his personal life.  Oops but how invasive are they in all aspects of life.  Sorry that is how i feel and how judgemental they are.  i apologize but that is my belief.
