"After Tillman death, Army clamped down"

By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer
44 minutes ago

" SAN FRANCISCO - Within hours of Pat Tillman's death, the Army went into information-lockdown mode, cutting off phone and Internet connections at a base in  Afghanistan, posting guards on a wounded platoon mate, and ordering a sergeant to burn Tillman's uniform.

New investigative documents reviewed by The Associated Press describe how the military sealed off information about Tillman's death from all but a small ring of soldiers. Officers quietly passed their suspicion of friendly fire up the chain to the highest ranks of the military, but the truth did not reach Tillman's family for five weeks.

The clampdown, and the misinformation issued by the military, lie at the heart of a burgeoning congressional investigation. "

What did you expect them to do.  They wanted a high profile hero and if the "truth" was inconvenient then change the "truth".  If we do any serious research on "Heros" the assessment of Greg Boyington (MOH) rings true more often than not.

Col. Boyington USMC,MOH said loud and often ,much to the chagrin of his superior officers, "Show me a hero and I will show you a bum"

Ya gotta admire the courage of guys like Pappy, Chesty and Smedley -- They didn't give a fuck what the President /civilians who were in charge of the military said /thought. When they saw something wrong....they spoke out. And that's a far cry from what we have now.

I would have to agree with your characterization of Pappy,Chesty and Smedley as courageous and talented warriors but Smedley was the only one of the bunch who had a any real brain power.

This sounds interesting.  Please tell me more about Pappy, Chesty and Smedley.  Were they colonels in the Marines?
