What? Isn't this exactly the kind of crap we've been hearing him spew for years? Did people actually think it was all some cute act when he was talking about political/media figures he didn't like? He's a nasty tempered jerk. Abusive. But why do I get the feeling this would be a far different thread if it was an outspoken conservative on that tape.....

I feel sorry for the daughter. This is a bad example of two divorced people who cannot get past the bitter feelings towards each other and it is chilren who suffer for it.

You have to understand minnetar, everything comes back to political ideology for some people, even verbal child abuse. I doubt highly that I would make any different comment about this issue if Charleton Heston had been heard doing the same things. These are actors, not public servants

I think what happens is when actors, singers, etc., on either side of the political fence make a name for themselves by telling society what is good for all (by way of spouting political beliefs, etc.), they have much farther to fall when they themselves are found living as the antithesis of what they espouse. I would be upset to if my child was a pig, or braindead. Poor guy.. Could you imagine the stress of being in the delivery room expecting a health human child and out comes a pig. And then that pig is braindead. But you don't stop trying to teach pig because this "pig" is your offspring, so you spend endless hours trying to teach the pig to answer a phone so you can speak to it when you are working to provide for it, and after years you think you finally have taught it how. Then all your hopes are dashed, and the thing forgets how. Poor guy. I can imagine his frustration. I've tried training dogs, and that was hard enough. It would probably drive me over the edge training a braindead pig. My hats off to the guy for trying.

One of the things that struck me about the phone message was that for most of it, you couldn't tell who he was talking to. The venom, the pissitude, didn't seem to be aimed at Ireland, but at Kim Bassinger. "You've humiliated me for the last time ... " "You are ungrateful and inhuman ... " He seems so angry, but also ... impotent. It's the rage of someone who feels fucked over by the other person. Bizarre that the other would be a child. Just my musing, MSS

His defenders would defend him; his attackers would attack. Same dynamic we're seeing now. Same one we've seen in countless media frenzies. The one difference I can imagine would be if the conservative had been a "family values" advocate. Then there'd be a (legitimate imho) hypocrisy angle.
