All my life I have slept in intervals, not being able to get a good nights' sleep in turn causing me to have mood problems, weight issues, depression and so on...Since I have been using Valerian Root I have had a better nights sleep but I don't use it often because I am on anti-depressants and it can cause your heart to race some...here is the information about valerian root if anyone is interested.

K, your the second person I know now who is taking valerian root. My girlfriend uses it. I have extremely restless night and seldom sleep at all. Thanks for the link.

I heard wonders about Valerian Root, and a former dominant instructed me to take it, since I have sleep issues.

It gave me insomnia.  Pffft!  But I'm weird that way.  However, I do tell others about it as a suggestion, since so many people swear by it.  Good for you for putting the word out there.

I've used valerian root, but I never found it to do anything for me in quantities that I could get into my system. I realize that it's supposed to contain GABA, among other things, and that this should theoretically contribute to sleep, but the amounts are miniscule if you aren't on a GABA-transaminase-inhibitor like valproic acid / sodium valproate (Depakene / Depakote). Never heard anything about making your heart race, though.

If you're looking for something "natural", then sleep hygiene works, as does getting 15-30 minutes of sunlight within 2 hours of waking up. Some would consider melatonin "natural", as it appears to be the dominant circadian rythm regulating hormone in our bodies.

Myself, if I'm having insomnia, I need something fairly potent. I can stay awake through 4mg rohypnol and 700mg meprobamate with the equivalent of ~560mg morphine in my system and function until it leaves my system, if I want to, even if I didn't have any sleep the past two nights. 0.5-1.0mg rohypnol usually does the trick, though. (No, I don't do illicit drugs.)

Have you tried Nardil? If that doesn't help you sleep, you might need a stimulant instead. You wouldn't happen to have close relatives that are Aspergers' or have ADHD or bipolar, would you?

Sorry if these questions are too personal.

As for Efexor, be sure to taper off very gradually when you eventually go off it. There's a reason why people sometimes refer to strong paresthesias as "Efexor shocks", although in my experience Parnate is worse in this regard.

Seemed likely with the sleep issues, and would explain why the SSRIs got you all messed up, although Efexor will still do some of that to a lesser degree. Also, your face somehow "seemed" vaguely autistic/aspie, though I realize that's a rather unscientific explanation. My nephandi is an aspie, and these things are a bit more than a hobby to me... call it an obsession. My pdoc called it a calling, so I'm considering becoming a pdoc.

Anyway, if you'd like to talk about any of that stuff, or have any questions, I'm always happy to talk.

I was just curious; 'twas the missing piece to the puzzle, so to speak, and I wasn't sure about it.

I've tried it an it made me ill.  Unfortunetly its one of the those herbs that can really help, or do the opposite.

Its certainly worth a try though.  Another good one is melatonian as well if the valarian doesn't work for you.  Its a natural chemical found in your body that helps you drift off to sleep.

JerseyKrissi72,

I'm afraid I don't have a myspace account, but I've tried sending you a PM, maybe you'll get it. If not, we'll work something out.

Could you detail the problem you had in trying to send me one?

I usually click the name to get the profile, and then use the "send a message" box under the short version of the profile. If that doesn't work, I'm sure the moderators could do something to fix it.

Regards,
Aswad.

Okay. I've signed up for a Yahoo account, and added you to my roster, as well as sending you an invitation for Google Talk. One or more of these should work out.
