If You raised a couple of young dogs from pups and then gave them to Your lover as a present You would probably be a little devastated if You later discovered that Your lover had grown tired of Your love gift and taken the dogs to the Humane Society and had them both put down. The least You would probably want in such a situation would be to be offered the right of first refusal for the two dogs that You most likely named, helped wean and even potty trained - and consequently closely bonded with - while the cute little puppies were still too young to be taken away from their mother to be given as a gift to Your lover.
As an analogue, men have a similar emotional attachment to the cute and cuddly little mites that they produce and raise and give as love gifts to the Women in their life. Believe sissy, Ma'am, when he tells You that just thinking up original names for each of one's individual sperm is quite a "labor of love" and naturally leads to the paternal male bonding very closely with every one of his darling little progeny. This sissy, for one, would be quite devastated to learn that one of the recipients of his many love gifts did not at least do him the courtesy of offering him the right of first refusal should they suddenly tire of the company of his cute and playful little spermatozoa. Some Women can just be so selfish, single-minded, callous and ungrateful it simply boggles the mind! [:(]
