Funny... my sympathometer seems stuck on "don't give a shit". One might have a discussion on the relativity of morals, but going to a foreign country to perform to a crowd means you figure out what you can and can't do, given the fact there will be > 1,000 witnesses to your actions. He is a public figure with an entourage that should have covered his ass beforehand and he should be held accountable for his ignorance and carelessness. This isn't about what is morally right or wrong. This is about showing some respect to a nation that welcomes you as a distinguished guest.

Haha!

I have this book somewhere on India, that's part of a series called " Culture Shock". It did mention a particular taboo in many regions there concerning PDA between men and women. Like, it's frowned upon for a husband and wife to hold hands, etc.

Maybe Gere should have got himself a copy, lol

Ya know...I posted because I thought it was kind of funny...but I'm now recalling someone who once many years back told me about the way we (Americans) travel.

Indeed.  Your points are well taken.

Porn is illegal in India?
Just like guns and Canada, it sounds like a business opportunity to me!
Just imagine, "Hundreds of Millions in India starved for Porn!"

That's a load of twaddle.

This is what really impressed me:

Last week, crowds in several Indian cities burned effigies of the 57-year-old star of "An Officer and a Gentleman,"

These people have some SERIOUS free time.
