Asianatrix -> Moral & Ethical Responsibility... (4/30/2005 9:27:30 PM)

My question:
I have gotten a message from someone stating the s/he will commit suicide if s/he doesn't find a Mistress soon.

I do not live in this person's area. Not even close.
I do not know this person, therefore cannot ascertain the severity of this email.

I do realize that there are individuals on here that are in such need that they will do extreme things.

I deleted the msg & blocked the person. (the online equivalent to running away, completely freaked out.)

Should I have fwd'd the msg to some administrative person for review? Opening that message was not fun and I don't think anyone else should have to do it.

I think that someone else got a similar email last week. Maybe it's just someone looking to get attention by making people feel sorry for them and try to get a Mistress at the same time. You could email collarme support and ask them to look into, but I don't know if it would make a difference, they can simply change screen names and continue.

I always ask these people exactly how they plan to DO IT!

I go with Sartre on this topic.

Are you trying to say "Siamsa"? Or are you refering to someone else?

I think he was referring to the French existentialist, Jean-Paul Sartre.

Ah, you would think that me, being a Psychology major, would have recognized that. Ah well, maybe that's my cue to head to bed.

My apologies

No, he means Sartre. Here is a quote from Sartre's Nausea:

quote:

What held me back was the thought that no one, absolutely no one, would be moved by my death, that I would be more alone in death than in life.

Edited to add: God DAMN, in the time it took me to write this, two people already pointed it out. Oh well.

Ah, but you actually explained what Sartre said! I was clueless so I appreciate the time you took. [:)]

As for the original question....

None of us are responsible for the choices made by someone else. For a complete stranger to try to lay that kind of guilt upon you suggests they are manipulative as well as in need of professional help. But seeking that help is a choice that they will have to make - we can't force it upon them.
