Not a comment in particular on this thread but on the idea that a woman would take a man's surname at all. I have never understood it. Now some folks will say "So she'll have the last name as their offspring" but that shows another level of confusion for me. Why on earth would the sire's surname go to the offspring? Unless you do a blood or genetic test you cannot know the father for certain. Unless there has been serious medical intervention you know know who the mother is. Not that we are planning on having them, but if we did have offspring I have always said "it comes out of my body, it has my name; when you can put as much time and physical effort into the process, we can hyphenate."
