I was using a public restroom today. As I was standing at the stall doing my thing, there was a guy sitting on the toilet talking on his cell phone. I could hear him talking in the stall. What the hell? Has anyone else seen this? Has anyone else done this?

LOL, yes, i've heard women do the same thing! In fact, she asked if she could call her friend back b/c she was in the bathroom, (with the sound of toilets flushing in the background).

Can't imagine what the person on the other end of the phone is thinking! Perhaps that's their kink?

Ahem, Estring? Sir? If You'll scroll down a little to Your post in "comedic version of hell", You'll see that You said hell was any place without cell phones.

No, what I said was from what I have seen, Hell would be a place without cell phones. I have never owned one. But I see many would be "in Hell" without one.

Recently,

i overheard someone making, what sounded like a drug deal, on their cell phone, walking down the street.

How dumb is that?

Hello,

There was a law in Ancient (Feudal period) Japan where a Samurai could decapitate anybody they felt was "disturbing their wa" or upsetting their emotional equilibrium.
The Japanese of today are almost insanely polite because laws such as this culled the obnoxious cretins and their horrible behaviors from the blood line.

I sit in the hot tub at my apartment with 4 people, 3 of them are having loud conversations on their cell phones. I go into restaurants and get to listen to people discussing their bowel health on their cell phones. I walk around shopping for clothes and listen to some woman screaming at her children on her phone. I am in class or the library and 3 cell phones start ringing at top possible volume, and all I can think of is the police inspector in the movie Hannibal.

The problem is very similar to the psychology of somebody who is a road-rage-a-holic. They live in their own tiny little cone of silence (in their own head) thinking they are home and can behave any damn way they feel like behaving. Only the home they are in is going 60 miles an hour down the freeway or glued to their head in a public place.

Human beings have not had time for natural selection to weed out the ones with horrible manners who inflict their atrocious lack of social graces in the privacy of their own home non-soncensually on the rest of us.

As far as talking on the phone while using the restroom, the first time I was chatting with somebody and I heard tinkling and the toilet flushing I felt like changing my phone number and moving to where she could not find me.

Sadly, my Katana is currently in storage or I would probably look in to chlorinating the gene pool. :(

Sinergy, I quite agree with You. I'm trying to enjoy a museum exhibit and someone is standing nearby yammering into a cell phone. They seem to be everywhere people congregate. I have one, but it mainly stays off until I need to talk to someone and that's seldom in a public place. I don't leave it on, since I don't want to be 'found' everywhere I go. Or it's on while I'm at the computer (no dsl out here in the sticks!). Most of the conversation one overhears are not of the urgent variety. "What are you doing?" "Nothing". Geez, Louise. Why bother?

I agree Sinergy, but it goes way beyond bad manners. Everywhere you look, the philosophy of "Just Do It" or " If it feels good, do it" is crammed down our throats. Children are being raised to believe that the world revolves around them. So what if you can't watch a movie because someone is yakking on their cell phone? They couldn't care less. That call is the only thing that matters to them.

Very true Sinergy, Pixiedumpling and Estring. I only really use mine when I actually need to call someone over something important, I cant stand just wandering down the street having a chat to someone. To be honest it strikes me as a little rude.

And yeah, people these days just dont think about others. I'm all in favour of doing what you want to do, but at least be polite about it.

Hello,

My cell phone stays in silent mode 99% of the time. My kids have the number and I will answer if they call. Whether I answer other calls depends on whether a) I want to talk on the phone (unlikely) or b) am not driving, working, or sleeping, or c) I really need to talk to that person about something important. But I do not generally engage in long conversations on my cell phone, and conclude my business or tell them when I will call them back from a land line.

One reason for this is any nimrod with a police scanner is listening to everything I say talking on it.

Hear the joke about the guy using the restroom at a rest stop on the highway? He gets in a stall and starts minding his own business when the guy in the next stall says "So, what are doing?" He says that he's doing something private and he'd like the illusion of privacy, thank you.

The other guy does not take the hint and asks, "So where are you going tonight?" He responds that where he's going is his business, no one elses.

Then the other guy says, "I'll call you back. The fat head in the next stall is making so much noise I can't hear you."

Make me the third with no cell. No pager either.

They irritate the hell out of me. I could care less if I had a house phone to be honest. But there are others that live here who insist on at least a house phone if no cell.

Now when it comes to internet, I have to have it..lol
