ORIGINAL: Dastardly I'm currently on 800mg of Tegretol which I seem to be ok with but it's definitely having an effect on my mood, I seem to be flatlining most of the time, no big highs or lows anymore. Carbamazepine (Tegretol) is a mood stabilizer and an anticonvulsant. You could try a different anticonvulsant with less "mood stabilizing" effects, or a tricyclic like nortriptyline. That might reduce the problems with flattened affect. Alternately, if painkillers work for you, it might be possible to deal with it using long-acting opioid painkillers like buprenorphine or methadone, possibly along with memantine to reduce tolerance buildup, and occasional rounds of Protein Kinase C inhibitors and/or ketamine to reverse it. Neuralgias aren't something I've looked into, though, but I know a guy who's done some research on treating them with tricyclics, so I could ask him for a clue when/if he's available again. Your own doc is probably a better bet, though.
