"British bomb plotters jailed for life" POSTED: 10:38 a.m. EDT, April 30, 2007 " LONDON, England (CNN) -- Five Britons have been jailed for life after being found guilty of plotting to carry out al Qaeda-inspired bomb attacks across Britain on targets ranging from a nightclub to a shopping mall. The gang planned to use 600 kg (1,300 lb) of fertilizer to make explosives to be used in bombings in revenge for Britain's support for the United States in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, prosecutors said. Details of the case -- previously kept secret to ensure a fair trial -- reveal previously undisclosed ties between the five men, the suicide bombers who attacked London's transport network in 2005, and other al-Qaeda linked cells. I have been listening to the news reports and the BBC so far has been very lax. No Muslim has been "on" complaining of Islamaphobia. I wonder why ?

Wednesday is "let half the prisoners out to visit the local Pub day" in British prisons. So you are correct they won't like it.... LOL !!!! :)

I wonder who they'll vote for on Thursday. After all, plotting to kill loads of people and overthrow the state is no reason to withdraw their franchise is it? That would be against their human rights after all.... E

LadyE did they change the Law to allow prisoners to vote, I know there was talk of it but being in the godd ol US of A I havn't kept track of it. I did some work in a high security Prison for a while and the facilities and food was excellent......mores the pity. One guy was shouting at me about what someone was doing to my wife.... very odd considering he was living in there and I was walking between the fences. it is amazzing that the prison concerned had a break out by members of the IRA, how they did it I do not know, the Walls and fences were bloody big.

to be fair Dtesmoac, I'm not sure, but I seem to remember they won the right under the European Convention on Human Rights. I'm all for the Convention, but honestly it does get a little ridiculous at times. As for the IRA breakout, theyre probably entitled to do so under the Convention, as long term imprisonment is a blatant infringement of their rights LOL! E

Sinergy: I didnt wish to intrude on the Angst revealed in the Oh Goody thread re. illegal immigration to the US ,so I offer a cross thread deviation here. Your post 15 on Oh Goody was right wing even by my standards. I am confident MsJO would not hold those views so I am just a little worried about how things are with you. lol Prisoners in the UK would be reluctant to take Wednesdays off because the omnibus editions of the major soaps are broadcast then. Tho' the Gym might be closed for cleaning or upgrading so I might be wrong. As I recall the IRA members "shot" their way out of that prison so I would assume some collusion or at least laxity of the prison staff.

The way things are going in the UK such pastimes will soon be compulsory. everywhere ! In fact I heard there was to be a butt fucker award for the most cheerfull actor to tread the boards. "Salad tossing".... whats that ?
