I have them too, and love them ! I had no trouble adjusting to them. One thing you need to do is make sure they are sitting correctly on your nose, the optomitrist should have put them on and shown you. If they slip down a bit, the progression can get fuzzy. I had one pair that always slipped down and I went back and they put a different " gripper" on the nose piece that held them snug in place without making a dent in my nose.
Your side vision will always be messed up. You have to turn your head to see to the left and right, not just move your eyes. When backing up in a car, it is tricky. You really have to crunk your head or the sides look blurry.

Everyone is different and it can take up to a week to adjust to them. If you aren't adjusting by then, you may need to go back to the eye MD.

The first time I got progressives, they told me there was a thirty day trial period, because some people just do not adjust to them. You may want to check your purchase slip and see if that was part of the deal. It is the lens company that offers the trial, not the MD.

Once you adjust to them, I think you will be thrilled. I have a great range of vision, no more taking my glasses off and on and squinting for the middle vision.

Be careful walking down steps.  Make sure you use the top area to focus on or you will fall.

I'm sure that someone else can explain them far better than I can but in simple terms, they are glasses that have different strengths that gradually blend into each other all combined in each lens. Kind of like bi-focals or tri-focals without the lines.

That is correct.  They are bi-focals that gradually change from the far-sightedness lens (the large lens on a bi-focal) to the near-sightedness (the small lens on a bi-focal), and they do not have the line that divide both.

The problem with the progressive lenses is that the "change" area is very narrow (imagine an hourglass with the top part wider than the bottom part and the narrow part that connects both), so when you look down you need to do so focusing on the middle of the lens to avoid those weird sensations.  Once you learn how to do that they are great and you can not go back to bi-focals, let alone to two pair of glasses.

Here is a picture:

If you look throughout any of the areas marked either distance, intermediate or near (basically the sides of the lens) the image gets distorted causing you to be nauseated, dizzy, etc.

progressive lenses are the bomb once you are used to them, they sure save you cranking your neck when you are working on computers.

Progressive lenses are a no line tri-focal. You want to make sure that the optician has correctly adjusted them to fit you perfectly so that they do not slide down your nose, and that when you're looking straight ahead, you're seeing out of your distance area. Point your nose at what ever it is you're wanting to look at, the sides will be nothing but a blurr if you turn only your eyes. When you look down, you should be able to see perfectly out of your reading area. When looking at a computer, you will have to tilt your head up slightly. While going down stairs, never look down and make sure you're holding onto the railing.
Generally, it takes up to 2-3 weeks to adjust to progressives. If during that time, you're still having difficulty adjusting to them, it may need a bit more adjusting, ie, adding a wrap or tilt to it, or you may be a progressive non-adapt, in which case, regular bi-focals would be required.
It also helps to wear the glasses as much as possible and never switch back and forth between different types of glasses.
