I think the worst bit for her was putting her pants on after thinking it wax just that waxing really hurt and then finding them stuck to her after when she went to pull them down. I have to say I felt very bad for her at that point lol she had to soak her pants off in hospital !!!!

Yeah LAdy Ellen Im not an advocate of the lazer hair removal.  I have spoken to may people that spent a lot of money on this "quick simple painfree hair removal method"  that hsa caused them scaring, a lot of pain and no value for money in the long run.  Though I am sure systems have developed better since I had any experience with them.

I must admit, whilst it did get quick results when I went though laser treatment - almost all gone within 12 monthly sessions, at five years on its not proven permanent by any means, and it cost a lot of money - around USD 5k I think.

The problem though - and I'm asking advice here, for free LOL! is that having now transitioned, its just not feasible for me to have what remains of my facial hair grow long enough for electrolysis, which is what I need to get done to get rid of the damned stuff. (just who exactly thought it would be a good idea to have pubic hair growing on the face anyway!?).

Any ideas please?

E

canupleaseme -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/3/2007 4:51:43 AM)

Lady Ellen without actually seeing it for myself its very hard to advise what would be right just for you.  I did treat a lady through electrolysis once as a mobile client and she would call me as soon as the hair was just poking out of the skin and grabable with the tweezers during the treatment and honestly we only needed about 2 mm.  It is very difficult when it comes to facial hair as it can be so distressing for people, when I was pregnant I got a nice little pubic hair type patch just under my chin and it drove me insane lol I was constantly picking at my goatee !!

I will put my thinking cap on for you and have a look about at some ideas and message you on the other side if you like?  Depending on your hair growth cycle and how quickly they become obvious there are a few things you could try.

Mysia -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/3/2007 5:28:37 AM)

I cycle between waxing myself and trimming. My self waxes are usually bikini, sometimes bik and lips, sometimes everything with hair has to get it. Depends what I have in mind for the next month. On others I prefer pubics, trimmed with balls and lips shaved or waxed. I rarely go for the total nude look on others. Overly hairy bodies get the wax.

Get a wax, it's painfully fun. And I'm not a maso.

LadyEllen -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/3/2007 5:31:26 AM)

Thanks - would be much appreciated!

The only ideas I have are to wander the world with a sticking plaster in various spots to hide it prior to those spots being done, though explaining to others as to why I seem to repeatedly require to do this seems onerous and the whole thing impractical.

Softsheen * Carson brand "Magic" depilatory powder. You mix it with water into a paste, apply, wait 10 minutes and scrape it off. One testimonial I read had the user scraping it off with a plastic spoon. Another used an expired credit card. (there's an irony there I can appreciate) You can find it at Walgreens, at Shop.com, Ebay, etc..

Everything I have read on this product has been good, but I will admit I have not gone out of my way to do research.

The first thing I will say about this post is: If you don't have experience with a particular product, DON'T recommend it.

With that said, I do recommend "Magic Shave" although I would NEVER in a million years tell someone to leave it on for 10 minutes unless of course they didn't value their skin and wanted only to see raw bloody flesh.

This product was designed to remove the hair from Black Men's faces.  That said, you can imagine the strength of this product.  It comes in a few different forms and several strengths.  The powder form can be mixed to any consistency you find conducive to your hair type.  HOWEVER, you never want to leave it on more than 2 or 3 minutes (shorter for some people).

This is a product I use regularly in my pubic area  I put it on, lightly massage it in for about a minute or until I start to feel a sting, then get in the shower and with the massaging sprayer and rinse it off.  There are always a few stray hairs that can be easily plucked with a tweezers but all in all most of the hair is removed.

There are a few words of caution:
  • If you are of a fairer skinned race, this product was not designed for your skin or hair types.  PROCEED with CAUTION
  • IF you are a woman please be careful around your urethra and vaginal openings and this stuff can burn the HELLO OUCH out of you.  Have your partner do it if you have one.
  • Be careful using anything to scrape it off, it can cause irritation, a strong spray of water with a little finger massage works very well
  • Before using this all over the area, test a small spot and see if you need to do it in patches rather than the whole area at once

This product is an over the counter product that can be garnered at most discount department stores ie: WalMart, Walgreens, K-mart, Target, or at most Beauty Supply Stores that carry Black Beauty Products.  You can also get it online...just google "Magic Shave"

Well, thank you for being assumptive.
1) I never said I recommend this product.
2) I put it out there for consideration, so the person who wants to use it can do the research.
3) This is why I noted I didn't do any research.

So, with that out of the way:

Thank you for the information you provided.

BBBTBW -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/4/2007 5:57:07 AM)

Eldritchdancer,

I stand corrected, you didn't post it as a recommendation.  However, you were responding to an inquiry.  When posting on a forum such as this, one has to assume that (some will disagree with me) people will look at it as a recommendation.  Your post was full of second hand information that was incorrect, so I corrected it.

My correction wasn't meant to irk you, annoy you or offend you.  If you can't handle being corrected, you shouldn't post publically.

Since I don't seek to go back and forth with you about what I said vs what you said, I will not be posting in response to you anymore.

CypherEnigma -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/4/2007 6:14:43 AM)

Use a skin clenser like seabreeze before waxing to remove all the oils from the fine (all) hairs.  Make sure you pulling in the direction of the hair growth. And make sure the hairs are long enough ( 1/8 th inch) .

nu2this1 -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/4/2007 10:42:10 AM)

someone mentioned wrinkled upper lips from waxing...is that true? i just recently started getting waxed and so far so good. i think it is much better than shaving. Also thanks for the tip on taking an aspirin before waxing i will defintely try it. Any suggestions for bumps or ingrown hairs?

hereyesruponyou -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/4/2007 2:53:15 PM)

Canuplease:  I have a question. I had my eyebrows done a few years ago and ended up with red swollen areas for 3-4 days. My stylist said i must be allergic to the wax and should not try it again. Needless to say i haven't, but would love to do the bikini wax. Have you heard of this type of reaction?

chellekitty -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/5/2007 10:20:57 AM)

i am allergic to something in the waxing process...i can only assume that somewhere in there, for me, it is the presense of aloe and open pores (hell of a thing to be allergic to...aloe...found out when it cause a 1st degree burn to blister....) ...anyway, there is a brand at walgreens called surgiwax that is irritant free, at least for me (hey that rhymed) i am sure it is available elsewhere, but that is where i have bought it...they have a facial wax that works great on me, and i don't know if i did it wrong or what, but a specifically designed bikini (may say brazillian in fact) that works horribly in my experience...i am getting the courage up to try their facial wax below the belt...

canupleaseme -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/5/2007 11:32:43 AM)

Hereyesuponyou   Well there are two reasons why you could of gotten red and swollen.  Normally wax is quite user friendly for all skin types to be honest I think I have only come across one person who was actually allergic to it.  Unfortunatly the other reason is your beauty therapist could of pulled the strip badly causing it to lift of a layer of skin which causes the redness and swelling or she may not have held the skin taught enough.  The skin on your eyebrows is not as tough as that on your face so you have to be very careful when applying wax to that area it really doesnt need much.  I would personally find a reputable salon in your area and explain what happened and ask if you can have a skin patch test where they will apply a bit of wax to a small area and then remove it and you can see how your skin reacts, and take it from there.  Also ask about which types of wax they use.  Some salons use organic and natural products which are less likely to cause an allergic reaction.  [:D]

Nu2this1  Are the lumps and ingrowing hairs on your upper lip?  A good facial scrub and keeping your skin nice and moisturised really helps.  Waxing shouldn't as a rule cause ingrowing hairs when done correctly and you have a good skin care routine.  If you find you have an ingrowing hair that is buried under the skin and doesnt look like it wants to come out and play you could try gently with clean fingers squeezing it to see if it will come towards the skin surface.

I am offering this next bit of advice with caution as really you should get a beauty therapist or such like to do this for you .
If you find you get an ingrowing hair in your bikini line or on your legs I usually treat them on my clients by taking a small microlance and easing it out from under the skin.   You can do this using tweezers and digging a little bit but i would only recommend you do this with sterile tweezers and clean hands and dont dig hard.  If you can easily get the head of the pin under the hair and lift it out above the skin you can tweeze it out then, I would then apply an antiseptic cream.   Ive dug out inch long hairs before when people have had them ingrowing   (it can be addictive poking about lol)

The best way ladies and gentlemen, thats its relevant too,  to stop ingrowing hairs is to do regular scrubs in the area and keep moisturised moisturised moisturised.[:D]

canupleaseme -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/5/2007 11:35:41 AM)

Ohh forgot to add.  Ive never heard of waxing causing wrinkles to the upper lip.

canupleaseme -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/5/2007 11:40:12 AM)

Ouch chellekitty    a lot of waxing products contain aloe in them especially the pre and post wax products.  It can be such a severe reaction too as you found out !!!  There are plenty of products available which dont contain it though and again if you ask about in salons and make sure their wax is aloe free to.

If you have any waxing done and do get a reaction Lavender oil is the absolute best to use.  Its safe to apply directly to the skin and is brilliant for burns of any kind and very soothing.  It also reduces swelling and helps the skin heal.  Its what I recommend all my electrolysis clients use as aftercare.

CandleInTheWind -> RE: hair removal experts... (5/5/2007 6:21:31 PM)

i have been waved 3 times  and she has an excellent reputation my punani is just not a a waxable thing..... It rips skin off that i personally like to keep....causes burns that just is far yoo apin ful than is meant to be had in such a delicate area.
