Eruditegirl -> Cleansing recipes (5/2/2007 6:37:23 AM)

I do a cleansing about every 6 months....in the middle of one right now....and I am runing out of creative recipes....I have seen and even written down a few recipes given here before....so I was hoping that the creative cooks here on collar could suggest a few for me....
My restrictions are...no meat (never do anyways)...no sugar...no white flour and no diary...

I make a vegetarian chili which seems to work nicely.  I dont really have a specific recipe as it varies over time and I cook by smell and taste and intuition.

Brown onions and garlic in olive oil in a cast iron dutch oven or crock pot.

Take a couple of pounds of Textured Vegetable Protein reconstituted with sherry and vegetable broth.  Throw it it in.

Throw in a bunch of cut up peppers, including jalapeno, habanero if you are brave, bell, anaheim, pasilla, etc.

Add a couple of tablespoons of chili powder.

A couple of cans of diced tomatoes, or a bunch of tomatoes cut up.

Throw in a beer.  Throw in some sherry.  I like adding 1/4 cup of rye whiskey for flavor.

Add a couple of cut up japanese eggplants.

Bake it a while.  Stir at times.

Throw in a can or two of tomato paste.

Bake it a while longer.

Eat it with cheese and sour cream.

Will taste better the second day.

While we are on the subject...

I bought some red and green curry sauces, some peanut sauce, and a couple of other things.

I stir fry veggies while making somen or soba noodles.   Sometimes I throw in nuts for protein.  Sometimes I throw in coconut milk, other times I throw in cut up coconut meat.

When the veggies are done, I throw in a bunch of the curry or peanut sauce, 1/2 cup of cream, and the noodles, and stir fry it up until the noodles suck up some of the moisture.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that it is less about following a recipe, and more about looking at a bunch of items and deciding what to do with them.  Look up food from cultures that have small amounts of protein and how they put it to good use.
