Who says you have to be stoic to be a good Master? Although roles are well defined, both Master and slave have emotional needs that are outside the tight confines of what most consider “The Life”. Love, compassion and empathy are necessary to emotional well-being but are too often ignored or even shunned. In M/s relationships, site after site on the ‘net prescribe and encourage a Master who is devoid of emotion, mercilessly punishing his slave without feeling and a slave that continually begs to be abused. I’m not discounting the need for structure, discipline and punishment, but without compassion and empathy, the relationship is little more than a bully torturing a weaker creature.
For some one to submit fully and without reservation to another is one of the greatest gifts that can be given. The submissive is putting her trust, faith and well-being in the hands of another. Imagine a gardener with only one plant. He may ignore it’s needs and prune it without regard and it will wither and die, or he can care for it, nourish it, pruning it only as needed and it will blossom into a beautiful rose that will please him and make him proud. A submissive is not that different. If not properly cared for she will wither and become little more than an automaton. Give her structure and discipline and punish her when she needs it, but also love and cherish her and don’t be afraid of intimacy and romance. If you’re only capable of giving discipline and punishment you earn no one’s respect and had best stay with online relationships. And one last thing, if your own self-discipline is so fragile that you can never bend, how can you expect discipline of another
