Oh, in answer to the question how I knew, well, I did a search, and, brown recluse bites have a very distinctive 'red white and blue' look to them.  Mine was classic.

Not all of them do actually, and there are conditions that can present with that appearance that are not loxoscelism or necrotic arachnidism.  It is certainly one strong differential to consider however, especially if you live in a known recluse area or have engaged in suspect activities (moving things in a woodpile, gardening, going in a tool shed, etc).

They love to hide in packing boxes when you're moving.  That's what happened to me.  We had just cleaned out our last storage unit in Ohio, where they're common and brought them to our new home in NJ.  We had a bunch of the boxes in the bedroom and I got bitten during the night, on the neck.

That's the reason the docs in NJ were so reluctant to diagnose it as a recluse bite, because they're much less common here.  But my bedroom was full of packing boxes that had been stored in the Ohio countryside for six months!

When what I thought was a zit on my neck got larger and then circular and continued to expand and then developed the classic red/white/blue bullseye, I remembered reading a Reader's Digest article years ago about the brown recluse spider bites and what they looked like.  I did a bunch of research on the internet, and there's no doubt in my mind that's what bit me.  Also, we had a swimming pool outside the bedroom window, and we did find a "probable" brown recluse spider carcass in it a couple days later.  Plus, all my symptoms and how it behaved were classic.

I was bitten by a brown recluse spider...I watched as it crawled off of my leg reached the grass and then promptly exploded....I'm a bad ass motherfucker.

Windchymes - based on your report, I'd also guess loxoscelism.

Domiguy, based on your report, I'd guess "big fat head syndrome".  [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
