Status: offline 		i know step-parenting is hard, and it is worse when the kids are adults at the time of the marriage.

But it is also hard on the parent who raised the children and now watches them struggle with mom/dads new spouse.

Status: offline 		Morning, Thorny, Des, holl-parts! I'm just seeing a lot of snow here so far, I haven't been out yet. The kicker is that it was bloody 51° the other day so what the heckarooni is this stuff? Yeesh, you'd think this was Idaho being hit with the Pineapple Express or something. Ya know, warm wet weather one day from California then BOOM! Freezing arctic weather from Canada!

  Oh wait - I'm in Canada now.......

Status: offline 		well it's not made better by the fact that the stepmother cheated with him on me. shortly after i allowed her to live with us for many months so she could save up for a house deposit. the children know this, in fact they suspected long before i did. she's been critical of them, has made it clear (when their father is not around) that she doesn't like them very much and constantly makes digs at me to their face. and i brought them up too politely to be bitchy back!

there's a lot of background here, m'dears, and i prefer not to say a whole hell of a lot until it pisses me off. the kidlets don't usually come on these boards, so other than my rueful look and snort when she pointed it out, i've been trying REALLY hard not to say TOO much.

and not that it's their lil sister's fault (who's 18 years younger than my youngest), but when their father gushes and adores over her on their birthdays and has no conversation with his older daughters that doesn't inevitably revolve back to the baby, and does things with her that he never had time for with them.... well, neither of them are doing themselves any favours in regards to my girls. i counsel patience, and tell them that in a few years the lil one will be more interesting as a sister

Status: offline 		AngelEyes...how sad this situation is. I know it is easy for your daughters to blame/hate the stepmother, but personally i think good old dad needs a rather swift kick in his ass.
Step parents come and go, but he is a dad to your kids forever and if he is not careful he is going to be a very lonely man, longing for a relationship with the very daughters he chose to allow another to disrespect.
