btw...i took the trash out with a can of Rain in my hand. Bug spray will have to work, as they do not make a snake spray.

I have lived out here all of my adult life. We have bears, coyotes, bobcats and the occasional rabid raccoon. This is the first time i have ever been scared.

Damn, and I have always thought my face would scare anything.......

Jeff...for the umpteenth time...you are a cutie!!!

Bitten by a snack?

Speaking of purple dinos... I had dinner last night at a T-Rex restaurant. They have purple dinos in their gift shop. But the neatest thing was eating in the "ice cave" (the walls and ceiling looked like what I've seen in real ice caves) and being bathed in the purple light that surrounded everyone.

It's too bad they used the color of purple for that bumbling and mega-despised icon of childrens' entertainment.

Sappa, I do not know if you have ever SEEN the show, but what is worse, and scares me more, is when the yellow one turns into "Captain Pickle," and sings about it.  *Shudder*

Oh goody. I just found out the guy who cuts our grass was using the weedwacker yesterday and a 6ft snake bit him when he got too close to a tree.
He says it was a harmless black snake. HARMLESS MY ASS!!! It BIT him...how harmless is that????
Betcha it was an Anaconda...or a Cobra. Could have been a Python....

Well, the good news is that he's around to tell you that it is harmless.....it was probably a black racer...they get to be pretty long, and since he had a weed whacker, the vibrations in the air to the snake were a threat, he simply reacted according to insitnct....PLEASE, tell me he didn't kill the snake!  I've been bitten tons of times by snakes, non-venomous, of course, it smarts a little, and you have to make sure you clean it ou t really good and pick out any teeth that are in your skin to avoid infection, but I've had paper cuts that hurt worse than snake bites.

And, um, Holly....contrary to what you think, cobras, anacondas and pythons aren't  naturally found in Pennsylvania, so you can breathe easy there......the rattlesnakes, copperheads and moccasins, unfortunately are found in your neck of the woods, but usually in the REAL woods.  Leave 'em be, they'll leave you be.....live and let live....'sides, would you rather have one big snake, or 500 mice and rats?

OK, I'm done.......if'n you haven't guessed, I like snakes......

Phobias like that are NOT fun.   *hugz Rain*

I feel for all of the folks afraid of snakes.....my sister can't even look at a picture of one.  It really pisses me off when people mess with other's phobias......talk about a sick fu*#er!

I don't mind creepy crawlies with 4 legs....lizards, snakes, odd pets, but bugs....OMG!!!!  Anything that comes into my house with more than 4 legs is a grease spot on the carpet!!!!!!  Or an appetizer for the kittehs if they catch it before I stomp it.  The only cool bug is a tarantula.....those I'm okay with.

When I was in Fort Chaffee, AR in 82, one of the girls found a tarantula one night sitting on her post.  She kept her, we named her Chaffee, she became our barracks mascot.  She'd sleep under the edge of her pillow, and bask in the sun on the floor during the day.  Anyway, I took a couple of pics of me holding Chaffee and sent them to my sister...who is just as afraid of spiders as she is snakes....I got the pic back cut up into pieces so small that there was no way of knowing what it originally was.  hmmmm...I guess that makes me a sick fu*#er....but dayum...it was FUNNNNEEEEEEEE!  She still hasn't forgiven me for that!

Aylee, in an effort to answer your question......

Adna Romanza Chaffee (April 14, 1842—November 1, 1914) was a General in the United States Army. Chaffee took part in the American Civil War and Indian Wars, played a key role in the Spanish-American War, and was instrumental at crushing the Boxer Rebellion in China. He was the Army Chief of Staff from 1904 to 1906, overseeing far-reaching transformation of organization and doctrine in the Army.

Adna Romanza Chaffee, Jr.
(September 23, 1884–August 22, 1941), was a major general in the United States Army, called the "Father of the Armored Force" for his role in developing the U.S. Army's tank forces.

The M24 Chaffee light tank was later named for him. Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, near Fort Smith Arkansas was named in his honor.

M24 Chaffee Light Tank
The M24 Chaffee -- arguably the best light tank of World War II -- was a fast light armoured vehicle with the ability to deliver relatively large caliber direct fire with the excellent 75 mm M6 gun. More than 4.000 produced by Cadillac and Massey-Harris during 1943-45. The first reached Europe in late 1944, where they proved very effective and highly reliable. However, at the outset of the Korean War American forces equiped with the with M24 Chaffees performed poorly against the enemy's T-34/85s, and these US units were soon augmented with M26 Pershings and M46 Pattons, along with M4A3E8 Shermans with the long 76mm gun. It remained in American service until 1953, by which time it wa totally replaced by the the M41 Bulldog. After 1945 the M24 Chaffee was used by many American allies. The French army used them in Indo-China, including at the battle of Dien Bien Phu. Though obsolete by the mid-1960's, it remains in service in some countries. In Taiwan the platform has been re-equipped with a 90mm gun.

AYLEEE!

Fort Chaffee was an Army post outside of Fort Smith, AR.  When Castro opened up all the jails and let the convicts and mental nuts go in Cuba, they all hopped in boats and headed for the good ol' US of A.  They came over in the thousands, we, (the US), needed someplace to put them, so they stuck them there.  Military Police units all across the country were assigned duty there for 90 days to baby sit them, and assist the Federal Protective Service and INS.  The year I went, the ones that were left were pretty much all the hardened criminals and psych cases that the US didn't want to unleash on the public....the Cubans used to think it was cool to find out where the females were at on the fence line, and all congregate there and whack off.  When the female freaked out, they'd follow her around the entire time they could find her.  One of the FPS guys told us the cuban words for "tiny prick" and we'd just holler it at them and laugh....they'd be so embarassed they'd go away real fast.......ahhhh, machismo......pppffffbbbbtttt!

OY!  The things I saw there!
