That lube thing irks a bit... there can be such a thing as too much for the first time.

Really, barring tiny skin tears and the like, the friction itself doesn't amount to all that much. But a lot of lube and a bit of pressure can let you "slip in" rather suddenly, which can be an unexpected surprise. Since the difficulties are mostly around expectations and psychology, the surprise can be a negative experience. A bit of patience can make all the difference, as a slow and steady pressure won't usually hurt without advance warning (which would be his cue to wait a bit). The "pop" of slipping can be far more sudden. Lube deals with friction, and does jack for the sphincter muscle itself. That was the snag for us, at least, and I know it has been so for others. Hence, testing the waters with a finger before deciding just how much lube is enough, seems prudent.

"Tons of lube" is a rule of thumb which gets repeated too often without an explanation, IMHO.

also, i think it might be of beifit for you to research the physiology of the area. know what your body is like in that area so you know a bit more what to expect. it's nothing like vaginal sex. it's won't feel the same. but there are still loads of nerve endings there and stimulating those is lovely. as him if he is ok with you stimulating yourself durring anal play. i find that manual stimulation durring anal makes it more fun for me, makes the orgasm better, and keeps me interested longer. also, on your side or doggy style for beginning is better than other positions. you can relax into the pose and that will help relax your body. perhaps a good play session before hand, to help get you into that sub space.

For me, the whole anal thing wasn't a big deal (had done it and enjoyed it before). It was when he pulled out the big butt plugs and wanted me to wear them for extended periods that got me a little worried. My Master got online and got a set of 3 anal trainers that started out with a small butt plug that is intended for extended use, then one larger and then a big one. The thought is get used to having a smaller one and working it up to the big ones. I still prefer my Master than a butt plug (because he knows what to do), but the 3 plugs helped me take the large plug much easier! Also, their is a product called "anal ease" that will numb the a-hole, works ok and you won't feel as much pressure.

tandm: don't numb your ass, it's a bad idea, and it means no feedback for him.

firefey: good point; the position is rather relevant, especially if his penis is curved (as many are), it's nice if it can align with the passages it will be traversing. Avoiding the false sense of bowel urgency (sorry, I don't know the right term for this) seems to be important, too, and I do know that bumping into the wrong spot is going to cause that feeling right away for my dear, at least.
