That is an overly simplistic solution to a symptom. What needs to be done is open communication in this country, so that we can understand there are many different cultures. People on both sides, in this case the officer and the person being questioned, need a good understanding that they are perceiving things from their culture. Gates has likely been the object of racism in the past, and the officer has likely been in a position to be accused of it. One of the things I whole heartedly agree with out President on, is that a complete and open dialogue concerning racism needs to happen. Racism is an issue from both sides, those that portray and those that perceive it. I use the word perceive, as racism may not be occurring.
