But yea, cookies usually don't have fillings and the ingredients like chocolate chip or nuts are part of the cookie.

The best cookies in this universe is Famous Amos and Betty Crocker instant Chocolate Chip Cookies, which you can make yourself comes damn close to Famous Amos.

Those Chip Ahoy Chocolate Chip Cookies, the ones we get here in packaging, taste dreadful.

Haven't eaten Oreos for years due to the tooth extractions but I can gum the heck out of the chewy Chips Ahoy. Used to make my own cookies following the toll house recipe but I substituted the Crisco butter stick for the real butter because I rather use the real butter for mashed or baked potatoes.

The best commercial chocolate chips are upstate regional. Freihoffer’s. On those rare occasions we give in and buy them, the box has had major inroads before we make it home.
Soft, sweet, enough salt to cause you to crave more.

Wrong.

The best commercial cookies are from the bakery at United at 0700 when they come out of the oven. Dont matter if they are chocolate chip, sugar cookies with frosting or snickerdoodles.

Piping hot, soft and chewy and damn good. Almost as good as sex... well maybe that is a stretch, but they have to be in the top ten wonderful things.

I wasn’t including any small bakery option. Just the ones available at the grocery store.

Years ago The NY Times taste tested all the grocery chocolate chips to see which was the best tasting.

I don’t remember the winner. Only that for weeks afterwards they were inundated with letters demanding a do over, including Freihoffers. They admitted that these were far superior but because they weren’t sold in NYC proper, they didn’t qualify.

Wow, this is interesting. The idea of a good cookie is "soft and chewy" texture?
For me, it has to be crunchy and light. I hate soft and chewy cookies. Taste like gum.
But I guess I don't like anything chewy. Even oysters.

Adding to the top ten food items, fresh apple cider donuts just out of the fryer. Rolled in either cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar.
From the farm stand at the apple orchard where the cider is pressed.

They would probably be good with a bottle of the house hard cider, but not for breakfast.

and they seem to think I am a pretty well balanced guy, but then we live in west texas.

And yes, they have seen me without my morning coffee.

And on a humorous note, the mornings I go to the range, I am handed a nice hot cup of coffee as soon as I walk in the door, with the standing phrase 'catastrophe avoided.'

And I'm a 'nut case' who should not be allowed guns yet there are 2 cabinets in my Mom's room and I have no desire to touch them. There is a difference between being insane and knowing WTF you are doing. Jeff has the experience with weaponry that rivals my brothers and I respect him for it.

It’s been so long since I spent time in N’Awlins, that I’d forgotten about those. They’re good butfresh cider donuts really are just as good.
