So!  From my incredibly wide sampling (read: not wide at all), it seems that there are definitely a good number of kinkster RPG fans out there.

I command you to reveal yourselves!  Oh, I suppose we need a topic, huh.  How about, uh... what's your favorite RPG -- tabletop or otherwise?

(No MMOs.  Because I'm the OP and I said so.

*perk*

RPGs?  *perkperk*

My favorites are (in no particular order):

AD&D (up to and including 3.5)
Vampire: the Masquerade (tabletop or LARP, including Kindred of the East and Dark Ages)
Changeling: the Dreaming (TT/LARP)
Legend of the Five Rings (1st Ed. only)
Aberrant (1st Ed. only)

I've also played Paladium, GURPS, Gamma World, ShadowRun, Werewolf: the Apocalypse, In Nomine, Champions, and some freestyle chatroom games.

I'm not really into MMORPGs, although I've tred City of Villains, EverQuest, and WoW.  They just don't do anything for me.

My little kitten started a thread about this in the "Ask a Submissive" section called Gamer Subs!

But, for this response...

D&D (because, honestly, who hasn't played it?)
V:tM... most of White Wolf's games, really, as I don't feel like taking up multiple lines to list each one individually
While I've not had the chance to play/run a Shadowrun game, I love the concept of the world

Now, for the other definition of RPGs (i.e., computer or console role-playing games)...
KotOR (again, because who hasn't played it?)
The Baldur's Gate series, a classic among computer RPGs that I still find myself coming back to
TES IV: Oblivion, not so much for the storyline as for the fact that its modding opportunities are nigh-limitless
A really old one for the PSX, Vagrant Story, because it had a combat system that was unique when I stumbled upon it
Kagero: Tecmo Deception 2 - another old PSX game that's just fun to play
A Bard's Tale - PS2, just a fun game with a wonderfully snarky main character

And, since cats like me listen about as well as you'd imagine, my current favorite MMO is Lord of the Rings Online. I've also played Star Wars: Galaxies, for about five years, and some dabbling in World of Warcraft (never really appealed to me; too many kids)

I'm sure I'll think of more given some time that I'm not ferret-sitting...

Oh sheesh...I forgot about Battletech and Warhammer.  Utterly worthless games, IMO.  There was another one about a post-apocalyptic Earth that called "Tyr" or "Tor" or something like that.  I only played that one a couple of times before I moved, but it had potential.

Deadlands! (a horror roleplay wild west setting)

Dungeons and Dragons 3.5. If you like 3.5 then check out Pathfinder, which is essentially Dungeons and Dragons 3.75.

I didn't realize how not that great 2nd ed. was until 3.5 came out.

Whitewolf was cool for a while, too.

I also love Shadowrun, awesome setting, but they need to switch to a less crappy system.

Marvel Super Heroes

Wish I could find those original books. Really liked the creation system in that game (from what I remember...it's been decades).

Mainly anything from White Wolf...The staff used to know me pretty well when I was on the forums.  But alas, my exe-hubby sold my book collection in order to score some meth.  Maybe I will start collecting again but most of the gamers here play WoW and I play Runescape a lot (blame Lizard for turning me on to that game).

I have played, and still do from time to time, Das Schwarze Auge, a German tabletop RPG. I would be surprised if anybody around here knew it.

My favorite RPG system is Fate 3.0, especially as seen in Spirit of the Century and Houses of the Blooded.

The single most enjoyable game I ever played was probably the Call of Cthulhu game I sat in on at GenCon 2009.  I'm not otherwise a big fan of BRP, though I think it's probably my favorite stats/skills system (WFRP might be if I'd ever found a chance to play).

The game that I most want to play (but haven't found players for yet) is Mouse Guard (or Burning Wheel) by Luke Crane.

Is your name Brandi?

I'm looking to get back into AD&D, from what I read, 4th ed is like playing WoW.

Lets see. Favorite is kind of rough...hrm. I suppose I'd have to go with classic 2nd edition d&d as far as a basic framework goes. However, I do love the following games

Kobolds ate my baby
Continuum
Demon: The Fallen
Torg
Call of Cthulhu (stay in the corner, keep eyes shut, burn all books)
Oh! and of course! Paranoia.

Damm skippy. Ohhh how I long for a datajack.

First, I'd rather choke on a toothpick than ever play 2nd edition AD&D, 3.5, 4E, or Pathfinder ever again.    They aren't bad games if you like what each has to offer, but I don't care for any of them enough to devote anymore time to them.

In my opinion, neither 3.5 nor 4E feel like D&D.  Yes, they stand on its shoulders and the comparisons are easy (AC, hit points, classes, levels, half elves, etc.), but there are way too many differences, for them to feel like Basic or AD&D (and I never played OD&D).  For the AD&D feel with a smoother rule set, I suggest Castles & Crusades or maybe another one of the retro-clones (but I'm not very familiar with any of them).  Or, of course, just play AD&D.

I think it is unfair to say that playing 4E (or any tabletop game) is like playing WoW.  I do think that 4E has borrowed a kind of mechanics from MMOs (how sly can Sly Flourish be if you do it round after round?), but I think cross pollination is fair and it has certainly been going on between pen and paper RPGS, miniature wargaming, sci-fi/fantasy/horror literature, and computer gaming ever since geeks realized that chocolate and peanut butter tasted great together.  4E may be an abstract simulator of squad tactics in a magical setting (like WoW), but it is also (like all pen & paper games) a rule set that allows for collaborative story telling in a way that MMOs can't even vaguely replicate (yet)  and can only barely mimic.  I don't think 4E (or anything called D&D) is the best vehicle for collaborative storytelling and expressing goals outside of "kill the monster and take its loot", but it can handle it.  MMOs can't.

I'm a die-hard D&D player -- I feel like those sort of like I do about superhero movies. You can pan them all you want, but I'll -never- be disappointed with an afternoon of D&D!
