I joined this community, such as it is, before there was internet... or at least at the cusp of the internet. I remember my friends using it to meet people and such, but it wasn't my cup of tea.

A few years ago, I was dreadfully lonely in Korea and desperate for any kind of human interaction. I found this website (and a few others). The quality of people on this one blew my mind. Very realistic, honest, upfront people. Sure there was some nonsense (in any group there is), but generally speaking this is a good site.

I feel bad for people who find wiitwd via the internet. I actually am glad I found it by teaching safer sex in a large East Coast City. It was the leather community (the gay leather community, mind you) who had been teaching themselves about safe, sane, and consensual as the AIDS crisis slammed them hard. There was a joke back then - the only gay leather men still alive were ugly tops. Macabre, sure, but they learned quickly and taught each other.

The internet allows for people to live more in fantasy *with others*. In the past, there was a much slower pace. People who were into wiitwd were exchanging letters via post office boxes and traveling to meet. Now things are a bit more acceptable, there isn't as much shame or such, but still the hngs and people like them can be the loudest. Reality is much more boring in some ways than fantasy.

Now, when are you coming to Korea, Michael?

To think I'm just a kinky guy, that loves sex, likes to Top girls, and indulges in a number of off the wall activities. Plus, I tend to want things my way.. and have a thing for being a little pushy or demanding about it. Who'd thunk I'd have to establish some hardcore image to go along with all that?

Um, ok, I've sort of lost track of what this thread is actually about, but personally when it comes to the idea of portraying any sort of 'Image', the only one that matters to me is portraying myself. How I portray myself online is pretty much how I am in real life (except for speech patterns, I tend to cut down on the excessive cursing in cyberspace

). I don't really care to have it any other way, nor would I try to. I wouldn't be being true to myself otherwise, and at least two of the principals that guide my actions/behaviour, that I abide by in my daily life, are 'Know Thyself' and 'To Thine Own Self Be True'. There are others, 'Harm none, do what you will', the 'Threefold Law of Karma' - Yes, I'm not only a Fluffy Sadist Service Top, I'm a Fluffy Wiccan Sadist Service Top

Personally I don't mind if a thread/conversation kind of meanders all over the place. I find that sort of organic, free flowing exchange of words/ideas often engenders some really good discussion and points of consideration.
